本刊是我國乃至亞洲唯一專門登載古脊椎動物學及相關領域研究論文的學術期刊，是國際同類期刊中歷史最悠久的，編委會成員均為國內(nèi)外古脊椎動物學研究領域的知名專家學者。本刊登載內(nèi)容涵蓋與古脊椎動物學有關的所有領域，諸好古脊椎動物各門類及人類起源與進化系統(tǒng)分類、形態(tài)功能、同位素測年、生物地層與地質(zhì)年代、古生態(tài)、古環(huán)境、古生物地理、脊椎動物化石收集及研究的有關方法，也包括對古脊椎動物學文獻的再研究。
