On September 23, a special Spanish edition of China Today was released in Lima, capital of Peru. The launch ceremony featured Zhao Wuyi, Chinese ambassador to Peru, Shi Zequn, Chinese cultural counselor to Peru, Fang Zhenghui, deputy president of China International Publishing Group (CIPG), Gong Xixiang, president of China Today, Maria del Pilar Tello, director of the Peruvian Information Service Department, Luis V. Chang, former Peruvian ambassador to China and chairman of the Chinese Cultural Center in Peru, He Lianxiang, general manager of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Peru, as well as 150 representatives from the Peruvian business circle, media and Chinese living in Peru.
Ambassador Zhao Wuyi was pleased to express in his speech that recent years have seen friendly communications multiply between China and Peru, along with rapid development of economic and trade relationships. People from all walks of Peruvian society have the desire to learn more about China; the time couldnt be better to publish China Today in Peru. Its circulation will help push our mutual understanding and friendship forward. Ms. Maria del Pilar Tello regards the special issue a milestone in the history of Sino-Peruvian cultural exchange, which will further connect our two peoples.
Mr. Fang Zhenghui and Gong Xixiang introduced respectively the philosophies and missions of CIPG and China Today. They emphasized that all foreign language publications under the CIPG, including all the foreign language editions of China Today, showcase economic and social development and traditional culture to the world, and will act as a bridge between China and the rest of the world.
