This story has lots of words for \"very bad\" (terrible, horrible, awful, dreadful) and for“verygood” (incredible, amazing, unbelievable). But, when we turn them into adverbs by adding“l(fā)y”, they all mean “very, very” in front of an adjective! For example, it can be awfully clean orincredibly dirty! “Incredibly” etc. are stronger and more popular, and “terribly” etc. often go with“sorry”, but they are more or less the same! “Dreadfully”is common in Britain only.
