Mary:Hi,do you know the “origin” of the Eiffel Tower?

Xiao Luo:It’s designed by Gustavo Eiffel,a French architect.Is there anything different?

Mary:Something you’ve never known! The Eiffel Tower was built for Universal Exhibition 1889 Paris France.

Xiao Luo:Did people construct buildings for World Expo?

Mary:Of course!World Expo brings us not only the landmark buildings,but also many great inventions.Have you ever heard the slogan—“Everything starts with World Expo”?

Xiao Luo:Are you joking?

Mary:Of course not.The incandescent lamp we use in daily life was invented by Edison.

Xiao Luo:I know,but how is it related to World Expo?

Mary:The incandescent lamp was displayed first in a World’s Fair,and then introduced to people’s life.So were the Edison gramophones,its voice was first heard by visitors in World Expo.

Xiao Luo:What you said reminds me of the marvelous building in Belgium,which is supposed to be of a blood tie with World Expo,isn’t it?

Mary:Bingo!What you mentioned is the Atomiun built for World’s Fair 1958 Brussels Belgium.It was called the most stunning building in the world!

Xiao Luo:Right,I saw the model,suspended cable structure,unbelievable!

瑪麗：哎，你知道埃菲爾鐵塔的“身世”嗎？

小羅：法國建筑師埃菲爾造的，還有什么奧妙之處嗎？

瑪麗：不知道了吧！埃菲爾鐵塔是1889年法國巴黎世博會的建筑物。

小羅：世博會還造建筑物？

瑪麗：那當然！不僅建筑呢，世博會使人類許多偉大的發(fā)明成果走進了我們的生活。沒聽過一句話么，“一切始于世博會”。

小羅：你沒開玩笑吧？

瑪麗：當然沒有。我們?nèi)粘Ｉ钪杏玫陌谉霟?，是愛迪生發(fā)明的。

小羅：這我知道，但與世博會有什么關(guān)系呢？

瑪麗：白熾燈也是通過世博會的展示才被普及使用的。還有愛迪生發(fā)明的留聲機，也是在世博會上第一次讓人們聽到了從留聲機里發(fā)出的聲音。

小羅：你這么一說我想起來了，好像在比利時還有一個特別棒的建筑，也有著世博“血緣”。

瑪麗：沒錯！你說的是1958年比利時布魯塞爾世博會留下的原子塔建筑，被譽為“地球上最令人感到震驚的建筑”！

小羅：對，我看過模型，懸索結(jié)構(gòu)，妙不可言！
