Centering on the strategic goal of building“World Copper Capital”, Tongling constantly extends its product lines and improves the copper industry chain. Now, the copper industry with a production value of RMB 100 billion has taken shape.

As the largest copper wire rod manufacturer in Asia, Tongling Quanwei Copper Technologies Co., Ltd., upon its moving into the local market, has turned itself into an integral part of the industry chain of electrolytic copper - copper wire rod - electromagnetic wire. Now, Quanwei is capable of manufacturing a bundle of copper poles weighing 4 tons every 8 minutes. In 2010, Quanwei Copper’s major products output reached 160,000 tons, one third of which was sold in Tongling and its neighboring areas.During the first half of 2011, the company achieved sales revenue of RMB 5.5 billion, up by 37.7% on a y-o-y basis. Liu Chengjiang, the General Manager of Quanwei said, “a copper(wire) pole company may link the upstream with downstream and serve as a bridge, and as for the entire copper industry chain, copper(wire) pole company links raw materials through to finished products.”

In recent years, in the process of investment promotion, Tongling introduced copper project accordingly, and made investment in key products with distinctive features and high market competitiveness (such as copper plate & strip,brass rod, low-oxygen copper pole, copper foil and copper-clad aluminum plate), so as to extend and improve the copper industry chain.Between January and June 2011, 37 copper companies above designated size achieved gross industrial production value of RMB 53.4 billion, accounting for 73.1% of the total industrial value of the city, increasing by 46.3% on a y-o-y basis.

Tongling has made and will make great achievements on its way to build “World Copper Capital”: since 2007, Tongling has made a total investment of RMB 10.5 billion in major copper projects; the period of the 12th Five-Year Plan will witness an investment of RMB 20.7 billion, implementation of 20 major projects and sales revenue increase of RMB 90.8 billion. It will enhance traditional industries and expand existing production capacity through reform; build Tongling into the largest copper smelting base, copper disassembly base,copper deep processing base and copper product trade center of China by means of introducing strategic investors, building industrial cluster and extend copper deep processing, etc. By 2015, Tongling strives to achieve annual sales revenue of more than RMB 150 billion from Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group and RMB 100 billion from other copper companies of the city.

Zhou Jinsheng, deputy director of Tongling Leading Group Office for Copper Industry Development said: “to strive to build world copper capital, we must rely on optimization, reform and upgrading of these traditional projects and launch of new projects, and such projects are pile foundations for us.”
