【編者注】匹諾曹的故事是18世紀(jì)意大利作家卡洛·科洛迪留給世人的經(jīng)典童話故事。她借用匹諾曹這個(gè)歐洲眾人皆知的人物，為我們敘述了一個(gè)生動(dòng)、充滿幻想、富有教育意義的故事。

Once upon a time， there was a carpenter（木匠） who was single all his life. And when the man got old， he felt very lonely. He wanted a child by his side. 從前有個(gè)木匠，一輩子沒結(jié)婚。他年老后感到非常孤獨(dú)。他很想要個(gè)孩子在身旁。

He made a puppet (木偶)—a small lovely boy. The wooden boy came to his life talking and walking the next morning. The old carpenter named the boy “Pinocchio”.他做了一個(gè)木偶——一個(gè)可愛的小男孩。第二天早上，小木偶竟然活了，并且會(huì)說(shuō)話能走路。老木匠給他取名叫“匹諾曹”。

The puppet was like a real boy， innocent（天真的） and ignorant(無(wú)知的). As a result， he was sent to school by the old carpenter. 小木偶就像個(gè)真的孩子，天真、無(wú)知。于是，老木匠送他去上學(xué)。

However， the puppet met a few bad guys at school. He learned to tell lies. After the old found the problem， he decided to give him a lesson. 可是，匹諾曹在學(xué)校碰到了一些壞孩子，學(xué)會(huì)了說(shuō)謊。當(dāng)老木匠發(fā)現(xiàn)后，他決定要教訓(xùn)一下匹諾曹。

Unluckily， the old carpenter’s words didn’t work. Not knowing what to do， the old carpenter asked Angel for help. Angel decided that his nose would grow whenever he told a lie. 不幸的是，老木匠的教育不起作用。無(wú)奈的老木匠只好向仙女尋求幫助。仙女決定只要匹諾曹再說(shuō)謊話，他的鼻子就會(huì)長(zhǎng)長(zhǎng)。

At first， Pinocchio would not believe Angel’s words. But when he found his nose did get longer after telling a lie， he was scared （害怕）. 起初，匹諾曹還不相信仙女的話。但是后來(lái)發(fā)現(xiàn)自己的鼻子在說(shuō)謊話后真的變長(zhǎng)了，他就開始害怕了。

Being regretful， Pinocchio begged for Angel’s forgiveness （寬?。? Kind Angel promised him that his long nose would shorten every time he told a truth until it returned to its normal state. 匹諾曹十分后悔，并祈求仙女寬恕他。仙女告訴他從今以后，他每說(shuō)一句真話鼻子就縮短一點(diǎn)，直到恢復(fù)正常。

On the other hand， even one more lie would make his nose that long. Pinocchio nodded and was careful enough not to tell a lie for 3 days. 但是只要他再說(shuō)謊，鼻子馬上會(huì)變成現(xiàn)在的樣子。匹諾曹點(diǎn)點(diǎn)頭，三天沒說(shuō)謊。

But one day， he told a lie again and regained his long nose. From then on， he swore（發(fā)誓） not to tell a lie any more indeed. 但是有一天匹諾曹又說(shuō)了謊話，他的鼻子又變長(zhǎng)了。匹諾曹發(fā)誓從此以后他再也不說(shuō)謊了。

At last， he had his normal nose. As a reward， he was turned into a real person in the end. 最后，他的鼻子恢復(fù)正常了。仙女為了獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)匹諾曹，把他變成了一個(gè)真人。
