Audie Cornish： Its been a great year for movie box offices with many records 1）toppled. The comic book 2）blockbuster “The Avengers” had the biggest opening weekend in Hollywood history. “Skyfall” became the first James Bond film to earn more than a billion dollars in ticket sales worldwide. In fact， box office sales overall this year easily the movie industrys biggest ever. But what about quality？ Bob Mondello says the news there is good， too. His top 10 list positively 3）runneth over.

Bob Mondello： Hollywood is often accused of serving up simple-minded pleasures， but a lot of this years best films were 4）nuanced and complex. And for once， their nuanced complexity was exactly what made them popular. Steven Spielbergs “Lincoln，” for instance...

Mondello： No wide-eyed presidential 6）snow job， “Lincoln”is a tale of political 7）intrigue where the great good of eradicating slavery requires great compromise on lesser evils.

Tommy Lee Jones： （as Thaddeus Stevens） Ashley insists youre ensuring approval by 8）dispensing 9）patronage to otherwise 10）undeserving Democrats...

Lewis： （as Abraham Lincoln） I cant ensure a single damn thing if you scare the whole House silly with talk of land 11）appropriations， revolutionary 12）tribunals...

Mondello： Spielbergs “Lincoln” has other virtues， terrific performances， gorgeous 13）cinematography， but whats 14）captivating audiences is that its not the dipped-in-amber civics lesson they were expecting. Thats also true of the war-on-terrorism 15）chronicle“Zero Dark Thirty.”

Unidentified man 1： I dont care about bin Laden. I care about the next attack. Youre going to start working on the American al-Qaida cells， protect the homeland.

Jessica Chastain： （as Maya） Bin Laden is the one who keeps telling them to attack the homeland.

Mondello： “Zero Dark Thirty”is about as far from a rah-rah， get-the-bad-guy flick as director Kathryn Bigelow could make it. Which is a good thing， because Ben Affleck made a rah-rah， get-awayfrom-the-bad-guys flick that would be pretty hard to 16）top， the rousing 17）thriller “Argo” about how the 18）CIA got six Americans out of 19）Tehran during the Iran 20）hostage crisis by pretending to make a movie.

Thats a trio of fact-based stories. Next， a fable blending real-world 21）tempests and mythical creatures. “Beasts of the Southern Wild” tells the tale of a 6-year-old girl named Hushpuppy living in a 22）bayou community thats hit by a hurricane.

Mondello： Hushpuppys world is at once real and magical and so is “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” Thats four of the years 10 most interesting pictures. The next three hail from overseas， from France in the case of Michael Hanekes devastating masterwork“Amour，” about an elderly married couple who find themselves facing the end of life and not a pretty end， though they can still find joy for a while in things like a brand new motorized wheelchair.

鮑勃·蒙代羅：好萊塢經(jīng)常被批出品毫無深度，但是本年度最佳影片中有不少與此略微不同，情節(jié)更為復(fù)雜。而這一次，這些細微差別的復(fù)雜性恰好使其大受歡迎。史蒂芬·斯皮爾伯格執(zhí)導(dǎo)的《林肯》就是其中之一。

蒙代羅：沒有睜眼說空話的“總統(tǒng)式”花言巧語的游說，《林肯》是一部表現(xiàn)政治陰謀的傳奇，最終廢除奴隸制的結(jié)局是需要權(quán)衡利弊作出極大妥協(xié)的。

蒙代羅：斯皮爾伯格的《林肯》可圈可點之處還有（演員）嫻熟的演技、獨具匠心的拍攝手法，但是吸引觀眾的是，這并不是所期待的正兒八經(jīng)的“公民課”。反恐戰(zhàn)爭的紀(jì)錄式影片《獵殺本·拉登》也一樣。

蒙代羅：《獵殺本·拉登》原本可以讓導(dǎo)演凱瑟琳·畢格羅拍成一部“好啊，抓住壞人”式的影片，但卻偏離其道。這是件好事，因為本·阿弗萊克已經(jīng)拍了一部難以超越的“好啊，遠離壞人”式的佳作——《逃離德黑蘭》，該影片講述中央情報局如何假扮電影拍攝隊在伊朗人質(zhì)事件中成功從德黑蘭解救六個美國人的驚險片。

以上是基于事實的三部電影。接下來將是現(xiàn)實與魔幻交雜、科幻生物風(fēng)暴來襲?！赌戏降囊矮F》講的是一個住在河口地區(qū)的6歲女孩“小玉米餅”在一場突如其來的暴風(fēng)雨之后經(jīng)歷的故事。

蒙代羅：“小玉米餅”的世界立即變得現(xiàn)實而又神奇，這就是《南方的野獸》。這是年度十佳影片的第四部。接下來的三部出自海外，就來說說法國電影、邁克爾·哈內(nèi)克的杰作《愛》吧，講的是一對年邁的夫妻，他們即將走到生命的盡頭但卻不盡美好，然而他們?nèi)匀豢梢詾樯钫业蕉虝旱目鞓罚呐轮皇且惠v嶄新的電動輪椅。

Mondello： “Amour” is about a love thats lasted decades. Another French picture， “Rust and Bone，” is about a love just beginning between a fighter and a woman who suffers a life-altering accident， one that required some of the years most arresting special effects. 2012s most compelling documentary， meanwhile， hails from Israel： “The Gatekeepers，” in which six former heads of that countrys internal security service talk about everything from targeted 23）assassinations to being hung out to dry by the politicians who gave them their marching orders.

Mondello： Also eye-opening is the far lighter documentary，“Searching for Sugar Man，” about an American folk singer named Rodriguez. He never got much traction in this county， but he became a superstar in a place you might not expect.

Rodriguez： （singing） and you think Im curious.

Unidentified man 2： The album was exceptionally popular. To many of us South Africans， he was the soundtrack to our lives.

Mondello： The thing is， Rodriguez never knew hed become a hit in South Africa and his fans there all thought he was dead until someone went searching for Sugar Man. Thats eight of my top 10. The last two are by directors named Anderson.

“Moonrise Kingdom” is Wes Andersons 24）whimsical look at a 12-year-old who excels at 25）scouting and the girl he runs off camping with.

Uuidentified child 2： Thats a good idea. It might also help if you didnt wear a fur hat.

Uuidentified child 1： Yeah， true.

Mondello： Wes Andersons whimsy contrasts with the high seriousness that Paul Thomas Anderson brings to his mid-century epic， “The Master，” about a movement called The Cause and its charismatic leader...

“The Master” is both intense psychologically and ravishing visually. OK， theoretically， were done， but the number 10 feels especially arbitrary in a terrific year like this one and I still have some time left， so lets keep going. Commercial filmmakers came up with some seriously cool fantasies this year， including two costarring Joseph Gordon-Levitt， the time-travel thrill ride，“Looper” in which Gordon-Levitt is an assassin who must kill his future self， played by Bruce Willis...

Mondello： And the final episode in Christopher Nolans Batman trilogy，“The Dark Knight Rises.”

蒙代羅：同樣讓人大開眼界的還有紀(jì)錄片《尋找小糖人》，講的是美國民間歌手羅格里格斯，在本土默默無聞，卻在另一個你未曾想過的國度大放異彩，成為超級巨星。
