閱讀下列材料,從各題所給的A、B、C、D四個選項中,選出一個最佳答案。

During my summer holidays, I worked at a vet’s, and I saw a lot of dogs. Minnie was the funniest-looking dog that I had ever seen. She had snow-white hair on her fat body. Her tail looked like a rat’s tail. She had big round eyes and always seemed surprised, but she was blind.

She was brought to the vet’s because her owner didn’t want her any more. I thought Minnie was a sweet dog, though. “No one should judge her by the way she looks.” I thought. So we took care of her. Finally, I advertised Minnie in the newspaper, “Funny-looking dog, who is quiet and has blind but beautiful eyes, needs a loving family.” When a young man called, I warned him that Minnie was strange-looking. The boy on the phone told me that his grandfather’s fifteen-year-old dog had died. I gave Minnie a good bath and made her hair feel soft. Then we waited for them to arrive.

At last, an old car drove up in front of the vet’s. Two kids raced to the door. They took Minnie happily into their arms. Then they ran to their grandfather, who was sitting in the car. I hurried behind them too see what he would say about Minnie. Inside the car, the grandfather held Minnie in his arms and touched her soft hair. She licked his face and her tail wagged(搖擺) so quickly that it looked like it would fly off her body. It was love at first lick.

“She is perfect.” The old man smiled.

I was thankful that Minnie had found the good home that she deserved. Then I saw that the old man’s eyes were a milky white color—he was blind, too.

Parents should stop blaming themselves because there’s not a lot they can do about it. I mean the teenager problem. Whatever you do or however you choose to deal with it, at certain times a wonderful, reasonable and helpful child will turn into a terrible animal.

I have seen friends deal with it in all kinds of different ways. One strict mother insisted that her son, right from a child, should stand up whenever anyone entered the room, open doors and shake hands like a gentleman. I saw him last week when I called round. Sprawling himself on the sofa in full length, he made no attempt to turn off the loud TV he was watching as I walked in, and his greeting was no more than a quick glance at me. His mother was ashamed. “I don’t know what to do with him these days,” she said. “He’s forgotten all the manners we taught him.”

He hasn’t forgotten them. He’s just decided that he’s not going to use them. She confessed that she would like to come up behind him and throw him down from the sofa onto the floor.

Another good friend of mine let her two daughters climb all over the furniture, reach across the table, stare at me and say, “I don’t like your dress; it’s ugly.” One of the daughters has recently been driven out of school. The other left home.

“Where did we go wrong?” her parents are now very sad. Probably nowhere much. At least, no more than the rest of that unfortunate humans, parents.
