還記得今年3月號我們介紹過的電影《逃離地球》嗎？（詳情可見CE： Teens 3月號的“強檔電影”欄目）本期“口語角”將帶大家看看地球人邪惡的一面：外星人斯科奇到地球展開拯救行動，卻被美國51區(qū)的上將尚卡爾逮捕。他的哥哥加里為了救他也來到51區(qū)。隨后，他們發(fā)現(xiàn)尚卡爾正進行著一項邪惡計劃——企圖消滅所有的外星人?，F(xiàn)在就讓我們跟加里一起展開拯救斯科奇的冒險旅程吧！

Gary： Computer， load all information on the Dark Planet.

Computer： All right， just a sec[秒]. Scanning files， scanning files... Here we are. The Dark Planet. A remote[遙遠] M-class planet located 400 light-years past the Taurus Molecular Cloud. A strange and terrifying[可怕的] environment， the only known world in which evolution is taking place in reverse[逆向]. It began with intelligent， attractive beings， but was soon overrun[占領] by ugly， aggressive[好爭吵的] and quite terrifying dim-witted[低能的] creatures.

Gary： Yuck. Gross.

Computer： As you can see， from gentle intelligence to savage[野蠻的] stupidity. They have a strange custom of dividing themselves into what they call countries， whose boundaries[邊界] they often dispute[爭吵]， which causes them to go to war. The pattern seems to be that the winner of the war then goes into decline[衰落] while the loser prospers[興旺]. We have also deduced[推斷] that the people of this planet choose leaders according to the oddity[古怪] and profusion[大量] of their facial hair. They worship money， soup， marker pens， something called dental floss[牙線] and this man， whose name is Cowell注.

Gary： Oh， terrifying！

Computer： Hes known for his strange accent， being very， very rich， showing off， wearing glasses indoors. I like him. One hundred and six advanced[高級的] lifeforms have landed on the Dark Planet...

Gary： What？

Computer： ...to attempt friendly first contact. Not a single one has returned.

在斯科奇準備出發(fā)到黑暗星球之前，加里用計算機搜尋黑暗星球的資料……

加里：計算機，載入所有有關黑暗星球的信息。

計算機：好的，稍等，文件掃描中……找到了。黑暗星球，一顆遙遠的M級行星，距離金牛座分子云400光年，環(huán)境光怪陸離，令人生畏，是唯一已知的逆向進化的世界。起初這個星球曾有過美麗智慧的生靈，但是很快就被丑陋野蠻而且蠢得可怕的生物所取代。

加里：唷，好惡心。

本選段主要是計算機的信息報告，用詞比日?？谡Z正式，出現(xiàn)了大量定語從句，行文流暢。大家不妨模仿計算機的語氣把信息報告背誦起來，熟悉一下定語從句的用法并增強語感。

注：全名西蒙·考威爾（Simon Cowell）（1959—），英國著名唱片制作人和電視制作人，擔任多個電視選秀節(jié)目的毒舌評委，包括《流行偶像》、《美國偶像》、《X音素》和《英國達人》。

斯科奇無視加里的勸告，決定馬上前往地球，加里強調(diào)彼此合作的重要性……

Gary： If you insist on going through with this idiotic

macho[（貶）男子氣的] stunt[驚人之舉]， you can count[不包括某人]

me out.

Scorch： Buh...wait...Youre gonna quit？ Well， you cant quit！ You...youre fired！

Gary： You cant fire me. Because I quit！ Humph！

“risk ones neck”表示冒著生命危險去做某事，例如：

I could use a man with your brain power. You see， Gary， I run a work release program. You work， then I release you. （sets an electric collar on Garys neck） You are going to make sure my latest project goes off without a hitch.

Gary： Im not doing anything until I see Scorch.

Shanker： You can whine[（貶）抱怨] till youre blue in the face， but I call the shots around here.

尚卡爾：別緊張，我可是你的發(fā)明的忠實粉絲哦。（看著斯科奇的任務制服）加里：斯科奇！你把我弟弟怎么了？

尚卡爾：我們很快就會說到他的。這是你設計的，對吧？

加里：你怎么知道的？

“do sth. till one is blue in the face”表示工作等努力到極點了，但結(jié)果還是不成功，例如：

Thurman： Anyway， you should settle in. Throw your stuff on the bottom bunk[床鋪].（The bunk is all covered in slime）

Gary： I gotta get outta here.

Dont I get a phone call？

Doc： Oh， yeah. A phone call？ A big-screen

TV？ Egyptian cotton sheets？ This is Area 51， man. Wake up！

Io： Keep it down！ Im trying to get some shut-eye.

Gary： Oh， I get it. Shut-eye. Youve got one eye.

Io： Are you making fun of my one eye？

Doc： Easy， lo. Remember the program.

Io： Just stick to the program， stick to the program. I apologize for my outburst[情緒失控]. My name is lo， and Im working through some anger issues.

Gary： She seems nice.

Doc： Oh， yeah， great gal. Im Doc.

Gary： Youre a doctor？

Doc： Radio talk show therapist[治療師]. Same thing without all the training， credentials[證件] or qualifications. So， Little Boy Blue， you got a name？

Gary： Gary. Im here looking for my brother. Have you seen him？

Doc： Whats he look like？ Blue like you？

Gary： Yes， exactly like me except with huge muscles and a chiseled[鑿出的] jaw and perfect teeth.

Doc： OK， so youre the ugly brother.

Gary： Oh， well， I wouldnt put it that way.

Doc： Oh， its not a question.

加里：你好，天啊，你渾身都是黏液。

瑟曼：唷，你渾身干燥燥的。

加里：現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)不干了。

瑟曼：我來自加德布魯克475星。

加里：沒聽過。

瑟曼：總之，你先安頓一下，把你的東西都搬到下鋪就行了。（床鋪全是黏液）

加里：我得離開這里。不能讓我打個電話嗎？

醫(yī)生：是啊。打電話？寬屏電視？埃及純棉床單？這里是51區(qū)啊，老兄，醒醒吧。

艾奧：小聲點，我要閉一下眼睡覺。

加里：哦，我懂了，閉一下眼，你只有一只眼。

艾奧：你是拿我的一只眼睛開玩笑嗎？

醫(yī)生：冷靜點，艾奧，別忘了這里的規(guī)矩。艾奧：堅守規(guī)矩，堅守規(guī)矩。抱歉，我突然發(fā)火了。我叫艾奧，我一直在克服情緒失控的問題。

加里：她人挺好的。

醫(yī)生：嗯，是的，我是醫(yī)生。

加里：你是個醫(yī)生？

醫(yī)生：電臺脫口秀治療師，跟真正的醫(yī)生沒兩樣，就是沒有經(jīng)過任何培訓，也沒有任何資格證書。那么，小藍兄弟，你有名字嗎？加里：加里，我來這兒找我弟弟。你見過他嗎？

醫(yī)生：他長什么樣的？跟你一樣藍嗎？

加里：嗯，一點也沒錯，只是他肌肉健美發(fā)達，輪廓硬朗剛毅，牙齒整齊皓白。醫(yī)生：好吧，就是說你是比較丑的那個。加里：噢，我不會這么理解的。醫(yī)生：噢，我又不是在問你。

Gary： Look， Scorch can bust us out of here. Hes got a ship. He can get us home.

Doc： Theres only one way out of here. Invent enough cool stuff and Shanker lets you go. Thats how Area 51 works. He lures[引誘] the smartest aliens from across the universe and throws us in jail[監(jiān)獄]. Take Thurman. He was a professor. Those four hands invented touchscreen[觸屏] technology. Or lo. She used to be a librarian. She got so mad looking stuff up for people that she invented the search engine. And most importantly， me. After my radio show got famous， I invented social networking. Ive got five billion pending[未決的] friend requests. Thats how Shanker bankrolls[提供資金] this place. He rips off[竊取] our technology and sells it to the world. Hes got deals with everybody. Apple， Facebook， them Google guys. You think humans could build this stuff？ I dont think so. Who do you think invented the Internet？ Cell phones？ Computer animation？ We did！

加里：聽著，斯科奇能幫助我們逃離這里。他有飛船，可以帶我們回家。

“My goodness！”和“Goodness me！”是口語中常用的插入語，表示驚訝或生氣，例如：My goodness， you spent a lot.（天啊，你花了那么多錢。）

還有與“goodness”相關的常用口語 “for goodness sake”，表示震驚或困擾，例如：For goodness sake， stop arguing?。ò萃校瑒e吵了?。?/p>

為了救出斯科奇，加里完成了尚卡爾的任務，與尚卡爾再次會面……

Gary： What？ How did you...？

Shanker： You call yourself intelligent life. （turns on Garys electric collar） These are fun. I could do that all day.

Gary： Let us go！ You got what you wanted！

Shanker： Why let you go now， only to hunt you down later？

Gary： Hunt us down？ But we come in peace.

Shanker： Nobody comes in peace. Im gonna wipe out the alien infestation[橫行] one planet at a time.

Gary： If you destroy every planet with intelligent life， youll have no stars left in the sky.

（Gary is taken away by soldiers）

Shanker： My stargazing[觀星] days are over.

士兵：這家伙要求見你，長官。

尚卡爾：把他交個我吧。

加里：我來帶我弟弟走。

尚卡爾：加里，終于肯合作了。

加里：我按你的要求做了，修好了反應堆。尚卡爾：而且非常及時。（打開屏幕）有了這些終極藍核，我會有多么強大呢。

加里：什么？你是怎么……

尚卡爾：你們自稱是智能生物。（開啟電擊頸圈）太有意思了。我可以這樣玩一整天。加里：放我們走，你已經(jīng)得償所愿了。

尚卡爾：為什么要放你們走呢，反正遲早也要宰了你們？

加里：宰了我們？但是我們是為和平而來的。

尚卡爾：沒有人是為和平而來的。我要把這些異類星球一個個消滅掉。

加里：如果你摧毀每一個有智能生物的星球，天上就沒有星星了。

（加里被士兵帶走）

尚卡爾：我早就過了看星星的年齡了。

“wipe out”除了有清除的意思之外，還可以表示使人疲憊不堪，例如：

斯科奇與加里最終成功阻止了尚卡爾的邪惡計劃，卻無法自救，從空中墜下……

Grey A： Dont mention it.

Gary： You can talk？

Grey A： Of course.

Grey B： Occasionally.

Grey C： From time to time.

Gary： Why did you save us？ I thought you worked for General Crazy.

Grey A： At first， we felt bad for squishing[壓扁] his dad.

Grey B： Turns out he was a psychopathic[精神病的] megalomaniac[狂妄自大的] bent on destroying every known form of intelligent life in the universe. Who knew？

Gary： What are you gonna do with him？

Grey B： Cant say.

Grey C： Itll give you nightmares.

斯科奇：抱歉，我把你開除了。

加里：明明是我辭職了。

（他們相擁而下，突然停于半空）

斯科奇：什么？加里

加里：怎么了？（看到小灰人救了他們）是你們，謝謝。（譯者注：小灰人是在51區(qū)幫助尚卡爾看管囚犯的外星人。）

小灰人A：別客氣。

加里：你們能說話？

小灰人A：當然了。

小灰人B：偶爾說一說。

小灰人C：時不時來幾句。

加里：為什么救我們呢？我以為你們是瘋狂上將的人。

小灰人A：起初我們對壓扁他爸爸的事很愧疚。（譯者注：他們初到地球，飛船失控，撞死了尚卡爾的父親。）

小灰人B：結(jié)果發(fā)現(xiàn)他是個狂妄自大的神經(jīng)病，每天都想著怎么消滅宇宙中的所有智能生物。誰想得到?。?/p>

加里：你們要怎么處置他？

小灰人B：不能說。

小灰人C：說了會讓你做噩夢的。
