A Large Silver Mine Discovered in Henan
Henan, which boasts China's largest silver mine and second largest gold mine, recently found a large silver mine in the southern part of Xiaoqinling, with an estimated 1,027 tons of silver.
The silver mine, located in the south of Xiaoqinling, Henan Province, administratively belongs to Zhuyang Town, Lingbao City. The approximately 22-square-kilometer Zhuyang Town is situated in the metallogenic belt of south margin of kraton in North China, characterized by complex tectonic evolution, and frequent magmatic activity and favorable metallogenic conditions and possesses dominant metal minerals such as gold, molybdenum, lead, zinc and silver. The Xiaoqinling gold field in Zhuyang Town is the second largest gold production base in China. But after more than 30 years of exploitation and utilization, it has been faced with resource depletion. In order to save this "mine in crisis", the Ministry of Land and Resources and the Henan Provincial People's Government decided to strengthen deep and peripheral geological prospecting in the Xiaoqinling area in 2010. In this process the above-mentioned large silver mine has been found.
Prior to this, Henan already has China's largest silver mine -the Tongbai silver mine, located in Zhuzhuang Village, Tongbai County, Nanyang City. With 2661.5 tons of proven class C+D silver metal, the Tongbai silver mine ranks first of China's four largest silver mines.
