The Summer Palace is one of the oldest and the most beautiful parks in Beijing. It lies in the northwest of Beijing， and it is the largest and best imperial1 garden which we can see now in China. The sixth Qing emperor2 Qian Long named it Qingyiyuan. During the Second Opium3 War， it was destroyed by fire. In 1888， Ci Xi spent much money rebuilding it and named it Yiheyuan.

頤和園是北京最古老、最美麗的公園之一，它位于北京市西北部，是北京現(xiàn)存的最大最好的皇家園林。清朝第六代皇帝乾隆曾把它命名為“清漪園”。它在第二次鴉片戰(zhàn)爭期間被戰(zhàn)火燒毀。1888年，慈禧花費巨資重修清漪園，并改名叫“頤和園”。

The Summer Palace， dominated4 mainly by Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake， covers an area5 of 2.9 square kilometers， three quarters of which is under water. Longevity Hill is the centre of the garden. On the hill， there is a big palace with many walls， towers， rooms and a great pavilion6. Along the Kunming Lake is the Long Corridor7. It is 728 metres long along the northern shore8. On the lake there is a famous white bridge with 17 spans9. All the buildings are painted with old beautiful Chinese paintings.

頤和園主要由萬壽山和昆明湖兩部分組成，全園占地2.9平方公里，水面大約占其面積的四分之三。萬壽山是全園的中心。山上有一個大宮殿，里面有很多圍墻、高塔、房間，還有一個大亭閣。昆明湖的北岸有一道728米長的長廊。湖上有一座著名的白色橋梁，共有17個橋洞。所有的建筑物都有中國古老的繪畫裝飾。

The Summer Palace was designated10 a World Heritage11 site by UNESCO in 1998. The Summer Palace has become a popular and relaxing destination12 for both Chinese and foreign tourists now.

1998年，頤和園被UNESCO（聯(lián)合國教科文組織）列入《世界遺產(chǎn)名錄》。如今，頤和園已成為中外游人喜愛游玩的好去處。
