I graduated from university four years ago.

四年前，我大學(xué)畢業(yè)。

I had always dreamed of going， and I know how fortunate I am to have had the opportunity to do so.

我曾經(jīng)一直夢想著自己可以去大學(xué)讀書，并慶幸自己能有機(jī)會實現(xiàn)。

Brown became my home， my community， and I took the ideas and the experiences I had there into all of my social life， into my work place， into my politics， into all of my life.

布朗大學(xué)成為了我的家，我的歸屬。我把我在布朗大學(xué)里的想法和經(jīng)歷貫徹到我的社交、工作、政治以及生活的方方面面。

I know that my university experience shaped who I am.

我知道我在大學(xué)時期的經(jīng)歷塑造了今天的自己。

And of course it does for many people.

當(dāng)然，很多人都是如此。

But what if our experience in university shows us that women dont belong in leadership？ What if it shows us that， yes， women can study， but they shouldnt lead a seminar？ What if， as still in many places around the world， it tells us that women dont belong there at all？ What if， as is the case in far too many universities， we are given the message that sexual violence isnt actually a form of violence？

但是，如果大學(xué)里的經(jīng)歷告訴我們女性不能成為領(lǐng)袖；告訴我們，當(dāng)然，女性可以求學(xué)，但卻不能主持研討會；告訴我們，就像世界上很多地區(qū)仍然表現(xiàn)的那樣，女性根本不能上大學(xué)；像太多校園里的情況那樣，我們被灌輸性別暴力實際上不算暴力的一種形式，我們該怎么辦？

But， we know that if you change students experiences so that they have different expectations3 of the world around them， expectations of equality， society will change.

但是我們知道，如果大學(xué)改變了學(xué)生的經(jīng)歷，讓他們對周遭的世界、對男女平等有了不同的期許，那么整個社會就將改變。

As we leave home for the first time to study at the places that we have worked so hard to get， we must not see or experience double standards.

當(dāng)我們第一次離開家去千辛萬苦考取的學(xué)校求學(xué)時，我們決不應(yīng)當(dāng)目睹和經(jīng)歷雙重標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。

We need to see equal respect， leadership and pay.

我們應(yīng)該追求同等的尊重、領(lǐng)導(dǎo)權(quán)和回報。

The university experience must tell women that their brain power is valued， and not just that， but that they belong within the leadership of the university itself.

大學(xué)經(jīng)歷不僅要讓女性明白她們的頭腦是有價值的，還要讓她們知道在大學(xué)里女性也可以成為領(lǐng)袖人物。

And so importantly right now， the experience must make it clear that the safety of women， minorities4， and anyone who may be vulnerable is a right， not a privilege5.

現(xiàn)如今同樣重要的是，大學(xué)必須清楚地讓學(xué)生知道：女性、少數(shù)族群和其他弱勢群體的安全問題絕不是特權(quán)，而是他們的基本權(quán)利。

A right that will be respected by a community that believes and supports survivors6， and that recognizes7 that when one persons safety is violated， everyone feels their own safety is violated.

這種基本權(quán)利將被社會群體所尊重，而這個群體信任并支持弱者，并且認(rèn)同一個觀點，即當(dāng)一個人的安全受到侵犯，所有的人都會感同身受。

A university should be a place of refuge that takes action against all forms of violence.

Thats why we believe that students should leave university believing in working hard for and expecting societies of true equality.

這就是為什么我們認(rèn)為一個離開大學(xué)的畢業(yè)生應(yīng)該堅信且期待一個真正平等的社會，并為之努力奮斗。

Society of true equality8 in every sense. And universities have the power to be an important catalyst9 for that change.

真正的平等應(yīng)該體現(xiàn)在社會各個方面，大學(xué)有能力成為這種變革的重要加速器。

Our ten impact champions have made this commitment and with their work， we know that they will inspire students， and other universities and schools across the world to do better.

I have realized that fighting for womens rights has too often become synonymous10 with manhating.

If there is one thing I know for certain， it is that this has to stop.

The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.

It is the theory of the political， economic and social equality of the sexes.

If men dont have to control， women wont have to be controlled.

Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive11.

男人和女人都可以敏感；

Both men and women should feel free to be strong.

男人和女人都可以堅強(qiáng)。

“If not me， who？ If not now， when？”

舍我其誰？如非此時，更待何時？

Ive had my breath taken away when a fan told me that since watching my speech she has stopped herself being beaten up by her father.

一個粉絲告訴我，在看了我的演講以后，她不再忍受爸爸的打罵了，聽到這個我特別驚喜。

Ive been shocked by the amount of men in my life that have contacted me since my speech to tell me to keep going， and that they want to make sure that their daughters will still be alive to see a world where women have parity12， economically and politically.

我也很驚訝在那場演講之后，身邊竟然有這么多男性聯(lián)系我，讓我繼續(xù)努力，說他們希望自己的女兒有生之年能看到一個女性在經(jīng)濟(jì)政治上都享有平權(quán)的世界。

If you truly pour your heart into what you believe in， even if it makes you weak， amazing things can and will happen.

如果你真心投入到你相信的事情中，就算這會讓你變得脆弱，神奇的事情總會發(fā)生的。

What gets scary is when your selfworth is tied up in what strangers think of you.

當(dāng)你的自我價值感被素昧平生的人的看法所綁架，這就變得很可怕了。

I really believe that you have to earn13 things.

我真心覺得人要自己去爭取。

I dont feel comfortable unless I have worked really hard.

I felt more myself with that haircut.

I felt bold， and it gave me power because it was my choice.
