Iris Chang(March 28,1968~November 9,2004),a famous Chinese American female writer,historian1andfreelance2,is best known for her history master piece:The Rape of Nanking:The ForgottenHolocaust3of World War II.She was born in Princeton,New Jersey and raised in Illinois.After briefstints4at the Associated Press and theChicago Tribune,she got a master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University.Since then,she started her career as an author and lecturer.On November 9,2004,Chang was found kill herself in her own car in California.
張純?nèi)纾?968年3月28日~2004年11月9日),美國著名的華裔女作家、歷史學(xué)家和自由撰稿人,她最為人知的是其英文歷史著作《南京浩劫:被遺忘的大屠殺》。她出生于新澤西州普林斯頓,在伊利諾州長大。曾在美聯(lián)社和《芝加哥論壇報(bào)》短暫當(dāng)過記者,后來從約翰·霍普金斯大學(xué)獲得碩士學(xué)位,自此開始全職寫作和講師的職業(yè)生涯。2004年11月9日,張純?nèi)绫蝗税l(fā)現(xiàn)在美國加州她自己的轎車內(nèi)自殺身亡。
Iris Chang is good at using unique ways to ex pose the unknown history of China and the Ameri canese in her works,such as theHsue Shen Tsien(orQian Xuesen),Nanking Massacre,American born Chinese,which also become the important his torical resources.However,there is one masterpiece deserving to be mentioned,that isThe Rape of Nanking:The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II.

It is the first book that has disclosed thea trocity5of the Nanking Massacre from different aspects to the whole world.The book has been listed byNew York Timesas the best seller for three months constantly and has been republished 20 times with half a million copies.Chang chooses to present this dusty,gloomy and bloody history to the public in her own way without any hesitation.
該作品首次從各種角度向世人揭示了南京大屠殺的暴行。這本書連續(xù)三個(gè)月被列為《紐約時(shí)報(bào)》最佳暢銷書,再版20次,付印量達(dá)50萬冊。張純?nèi)缫宰约旱姆绞胶敛华q豫地將這段封塵已久的黑暗、血腥的歷史呈現(xiàn)在世人眼前。
However,her action also attracted various questions,abuses6and even personal attacks.She had to change her phone number many times,strictly keep her home address and family in privacy and refused to receive any interviews at home.After sufferingprolonged7stress and thebom bardment8of public opinion,she developed depression and had to rely on drugs to keep her mood stable.On November 9,2004,she chose to kill herself.She was only 36 years old when she died.
