In Muskegon, Michigan, the Mona Shores High School Choir thrills the community with their spectacular holiday concert. But it’s the amount of performers that takes this singing tree1)over the top. Three hundred. Three hundred Mona Shores High School Choir students!

A week before the first show, a team of parent volunteers constructs the 67-foot tall,35,000-pound steel structure that will pack their children in like2)sardines.

While the parents construct, the kids rehearse for the Christmas concert that counts toward their semester grade.

Shawn Lawton(Choir Director): We rehearse for four months. Seventy-two minutes a day,five days a week.

The Mona Shores Choir is made up of the best of the best. Students3)audition from all of the area high schools for a space on the almost seven-storey tall singing Christmas tree.

With 300 hundred kids, 67 feet of steel, and over 20,000 lights finally in place,the Mona Shores Choir is ready to bring Christmas to Muskegon.

Shelby(Student): The world’s tallest singing Christmas tree is4)magnificent. It’s huge, it’s green, it’s bright.

The pressure is now on. The Mona Shores High School Choir is so passionate about being the world’s tallest singing Christmas tree that they’ll pack themselves 20 deep and 15 levels high, into a 67-foot,65,000-pound megastructure.

Jonny(Student): It’s really like hot and5)cramped to be squeezed in the rows.

Shawn: These kids are packed in there like sardines.

And it’s this man’s job to6)coax a7)stellar holiday performance out of 300 kids who are roasting under the heat of 20,000 lights and8)stuffed into rows barely two feet wide.Chelsea(Student): I always9)get butterflies every time. But you get the hang of it really fast. I like to help people get in the holiday10)mood.

Kendyl(Student): You’ll see faces everywhere you look in the tree. There’s faces and they’re bright and shinning and happy.

The kids have literally risen to the occasion.

Jonny: I love the experience singing in the tree.

Shelby: It just makes me really happy. It puts me in the mood for Christmas.

Chelsea: It’s an experience I’ll never ever forget.

Chanda McDonald(Parent): What makes the tree so special is not just the kids; the community comes together.
