When you have a hard time studying at school, you need to ask someone for advice. Sometimes, good advice can help you see clearer. Try to listen to the advice in a receptivei way. Then, take some time to think about it before you make your decision.
1. Ask someone with relevant2 knowledgeor experience. When you're asking for advice, try to turn to people who can really give youinsight3 into the problem. They may think in adifferent way. They don't have to be in yourexact4 shoes to have relevant experience. Makesure it's someone who really wants to see yousucceed5 as well.
2. Start with a positive6 tone7. Asking foradvice can be tough. Start out on the right footby opening with something positive and straight-forward8. Keep it simple by saying somethinglike, "I'd love your advice. Do you have 20minutes to spare?" Ask the person if he or she isopen to giving advice to see if he or she is theright person to ask.
3.Define9 the problem clearly for the ad-vice-giver. Other people's advice won't make much of a difference if you're not 100% clear on what your problem is. Start at the end—describe the decision you need to make. Then, explain everything you have to think about. That way,advice-giver will be able to give the advice you really need.
If youre pretty sure you have already known what youre going to do, just goahead with it.Dont ask for advice to validate10 a decision youve already made.Dont ask for advice as a shortcut11 for doing things.
