Martin Luther King Day is a national holiday in the USA， celebrated on 3rd Monday of January each year. This day honors the birthday of a great man， Dr. Martin Luther King， Jr.

Dr. King was born on 15th January， 1929， in Atlanta， Georgia. He was excellent in studies. In his early life he faced racism1， which made a deep impact in his life， then he decided to fight against such social injustice.

In 1964， he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racism. He had a dream to make the world a better place to live. He was assassinated2 on 4th April， 1968， in Memphis， Tennessee. He spent his whole life fighting against the social injustice.

President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983， and it was first observed3 three years later.

馬丁·路德·金紀(jì)念日是美國(guó)的聯(lián)邦假日，在每年一月份的第三個(gè)星期一慶祝。這一天是為了紀(jì)念偉人馬丁·路德·金博士的誕辰。

金博士于1929年1月15日出生在佐治亞州的亞特蘭大。他學(xué)習(xí)很出色。在他早年的生活中遭受過種族歧視，這對(duì)他的生活產(chǎn)生了深遠(yuǎn)的影響，他決定同這種社會(huì)不公作斗爭(zhēng)。

1964年，他因?yàn)樵谙N族歧視方面所作出的努力而獲得諾貝爾和平獎(jiǎng)。他有一個(gè)夢(mèng)想，想讓世界變得更美好。1968年4月4日他在田納西州的孟菲斯被人暗殺。他一生都在與社會(huì)不公正作斗爭(zhēng)。

羅納德·里根總統(tǒng)于1983簽署了法案將該節(jié)日寫入法律。三年后首次慶祝該節(jié)日。
