4月的哈爾濱，乍暖還寒。忙忙碌碌輾轉(zhuǎn)各地的差旅間隙，體味著季節(jié)的變換和新朋老友相見的快意。卸任建筑學(xué)院院長以來的大半年時(shí)間，我全部心力都投在了建筑創(chuàng)作中，接到《世界建筑》張利主編關(guān)于“哈工大建筑學(xué)人”的邀約時(shí)還是嚴(yán)冬，倏然間就已到交稿的日子，只好停下勾勒方案的筆，把這段時(shí)間在腦海中浮現(xiàn)的關(guān)于校友們的片段拾起來，試著拼出相對清晰的群像。但顯然這非常難，即便是我這個(gè)1978年就進(jìn)入學(xué)校（當(dāng)時(shí)名為哈爾濱建筑工程學(xué)院），40多年來見證并參與過建筑學(xué)科發(fā)展的老人兒，也很難悉知從這里走出去的學(xué)人們的現(xiàn)狀，更妄談對他們做出具有共識性的定義，所以不僅遲遲未能動筆，偶爾還會冒出“交白卷兒”的念頭。不過憑著擔(dān)任建筑學(xué)院院長9年時(shí)間的經(jīng)歷，通過學(xué)院老師有組織地收集到的校友們的訊息，以及這些年我在行業(yè)中的耳聞所見，逐漸形成了一些關(guān)于“哈工大建筑學(xué)人”的素材，但寫下作為本期的篇首語恐有偏頗，好在這之后就是優(yōu)秀學(xué)人代表的自我闡述，我們的文字或許會成為相互的一扇窗，從中看到之前未曾看到過的自己和他人。

哈爾濱工業(yè)大學(xué)的歷史可以追溯到1920年建校的哈爾濱中俄工業(yè)學(xué)校，創(chuàng)校之初的兩個(gè)學(xué)科之一——“鐵路建設(shè)科”在兩年后更名為“鐵路建筑系”。其后無論是被日本人接管還是全面學(xué)習(xí)蘇聯(lián)，都進(jìn)一步地奠定了學(xué)校在全國范圍內(nèi)“工程師搖籃”的至高地位。1958年學(xué)科建設(shè)由民到軍的轉(zhuǎn)變，更強(qiáng)化樹立了學(xué)校的整體工科優(yōu)勢。在這樣的背景下接受建筑教育的學(xué)人，自然而然地遵循著哈工大人“規(guī)格嚴(yán)格、功夫到家”的校訓(xùn)，潛移默化地因承了哈工大人務(wù)實(shí)求真、踏實(shí)肯干的精神，奔赴五湖四海，投身地方建設(shè)。雖志存高遠(yuǎn)，俯首甘為孺子牛卻是哈工大建筑學(xué)人的普遍寫照，默默無聞地匠心深耕是大多數(shù)人甘之如飴的工作常態(tài)：不做宏大的愿景鋪陳，基于人本，扎扎實(shí)實(shí)地用心把每一件事情做好，無論創(chuàng)作，還是管理，抑或教育，以及研究。常懷生、張家驥、梅季魁、侯幼彬、鄧林翰、郭恩章、陶友松、程友玲等先生是我們?nèi)雽W(xué)時(shí)的老師，他們中的幾位直到2000年左右仍傾力于學(xué)院的平臺建設(shè)工作。在他們的影響和感召下，77級、78級的多位同學(xué)留在母校任教，大大補(bǔ)充了建筑學(xué)科的師資力量：除我之外，張伶伶、金廣君、劉德明、徐蘇寧、劉大平、張姍姍、鄒廣天等同學(xué)在先生們的引領(lǐng)下，多年來不斷夯實(shí)著哈工大建筑學(xué)教育的基礎(chǔ)。當(dāng)然還有很多人畢業(yè)后在不同院校建筑學(xué)科經(jīng)年的建設(shè)發(fā)展中發(fā)揮了舉足輕重的作用；更多人則埋首職業(yè)建筑師生涯，潛心設(shè)計(jì)，通過大量實(shí)踐積累形成在行業(yè)內(nèi)具有品牌影響的業(yè)務(wù)板塊；還有在地產(chǎn)業(yè)打拼多年業(yè)績斐然、惦念反哺母校教育發(fā)展的杰出學(xué)人們，也都是低調(diào)做事的代表?！爸辛黜浦币辉~，是對絕大部分哈工大建筑學(xué)人的準(zhǔn)確描述。以規(guī)訓(xùn)實(shí)踐為主的教育基底，持續(xù)培養(yǎng)了一批又一批在自己的領(lǐng)域內(nèi)追求卓越、少有空談的堅(jiān)實(shí)力量。

學(xué)校雖隅守邊陲，但創(chuàng)立之初便是國際合作辦學(xué)，直至1950年代，仍有著非常明顯的國際化特征，很多外籍師資執(zhí)掌教學(xué)一線。待到我們這代人入學(xué)，便趕上了“出國潮”的興起，時(shí)至今日，出國求學(xué)和工作已經(jīng)不再是稀罕事情。自我們這代人開始，從課堂學(xué)習(xí)到親身體驗(yàn)甚至長期浸潤國際交流的進(jìn)程被快速推進(jìn)。一個(gè)地區(qū)、一座城市甚至一個(gè)國家文化的特殊性往往在更大的范圍更易得到凸顯和認(rèn)知。走出去，不僅對根植于不同環(huán)境的文化體察更敏銳，更不斷觸發(fā)自身的內(nèi)省。以全球視野傳承地域文化，不激進(jìn)求新，不一味守舊，堅(jiān)持在地深耕，致力一業(yè)求索，是哈工大建筑學(xué)人的掠影之一。這一點(diǎn)從學(xué)院的優(yōu)勢傳統(tǒng)研究方向可窺一二。早在60多年前，視國家需要，開學(xué)界先河，梅季魁教授率先進(jìn)行了全國范圍內(nèi)的體育建筑實(shí)地調(diào)研及系統(tǒng)研究，之后不僅陸續(xù)完成了大量富有影響力的場館設(shè)計(jì)，更通過本科設(shè)計(jì)課程訓(xùn)練和研究生課題研究培養(yǎng)了一批又一批設(shè)計(jì)和研究能力并舉的人才，國內(nèi)很多從事體育建筑設(shè)計(jì)及研究的專家學(xué)者都師出此門，屢有作品斬獲國際獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)。而立足東北寒地，學(xué)院師生多年來在教學(xué)和研究中不斷探索適應(yīng)寒冷地區(qū)的設(shè)計(jì)策略，優(yōu)化相應(yīng)技術(shù)，并通過寒地建筑科學(xué)實(shí)驗(yàn)室的平臺建設(shè)，與國際知名科研機(jī)構(gòu)協(xié)作，學(xué)術(shù)成果的實(shí)踐轉(zhuǎn)化不僅造福一方水土，更在一代又一代學(xué)生心中埋下珍視地方環(huán)境和風(fēng)土的種子。

我入學(xué)那年恰逢改革開放，這40余年，打開的不僅是國門，還有觀念，帶來的不僅是經(jīng)濟(jì)的躍升，還有價(jià)值的多元。建筑學(xué)科的外延隨之不斷拓展，建筑不再僅僅是居住的機(jī)器、美學(xué)的載體，已然成為傳達(dá)觀念和表征價(jià)值的媒介。建筑學(xué)科與不同學(xué)科的交互合作也日趨廣泛，日益緊密?；蛴幸庾匪?，或潛移默化，哈工大建筑學(xué)人此間代有新輩。無論教育一線，還是創(chuàng)作實(shí)踐，對價(jià)值和意義的追索常會引發(fā)對過往模式和方法的改變甚至顛覆，這需要迎接挑戰(zhàn)破釜沉舟的勇氣，以及直面質(zhì)疑堅(jiān)定不移的信念。走前人沒走過的路，艱辛，但心中對可期未來的憧憬和描摹讓先驅(qū)者們甘愿忍受一時(shí)孤獨(dú)。這40多年來，學(xué)院無論在人才培養(yǎng)還是學(xué)術(shù)探索方面都在夯實(shí)學(xué)科核心的基礎(chǔ)上不斷推新，老師們的自覺垂范深刻影響著從這里走出去的每一位學(xué)人，懷著對建筑的虔誠熱忱，不甘建筑落入窠臼、歸于平庸，努力于日常中探求奇跡。

停筆至此，似乎仍然沒能定義出哈工大建筑學(xué)人的鮮明特征，但這也正是哈工大建筑學(xué)人的特點(diǎn)——不馳空想，不騖虛聲。腦海中一張張閃回的面龐，少有耀眼之星，但堅(jiān)實(shí)厚重的學(xué)養(yǎng)讓哈工大建筑學(xué)人凝成千鈞力，成為建筑界如磐石般的中堅(jiān)力量，不言自重。□

In April, coldness still lingers in Harbin. I have been travelling in different places and experiencing seasonal changes and joy of meeting new and old friends. I have devoted all my efforts and energy to architectural creation since I retired from the position as Dean of the School of Architecture more than 6 months ago. It was in the severe winter that I received the invitation on "HIT Architectural Alumni" sent by ZHANG Li, Chief Editor of World Architecture. Time flying, the deadline for manuscript delivery has come, so I have to stop my pen to outline a scheme with to pick up fragments that appeared in my mind about alumni and try to piece together relatively clear group images.However, it is obviously very difficult. Even for me,an old man who entered this university in 1978(formerly known as Harbin Architectural and Civil Engineering Institute) and had been witnessing and participating in the development of architectural discipline in the past more than 40 years, it is hard to know the status quo of scholars who walked out from here, not to mention making any consistent definition on them, so I have delayed writing again and again, I had hit on an idea of "hand in blank examination papers" occasionally. However,depending on my nine-year experiences as Dean of the School of Architecture, messages about alumni systematically collected by the teachers of the School of Architecture, as well as what I have seen and heard in the architectural industry in the past years, materials with regard to "HIT Architectural Alumni" have gradually been formed. But it seems biased if such materials are written as introductory remarks of this issue. Fortunately, what follows this are self-descriptions made by excellent scholar representatives, and our words may become a window for each other to observe the self and others never seen before.

History of Harbin Institute of Technology(HIT) can be traced back to the Harbin Sino-Russian Industrial School founded in 1920. One of two disciplines at the beginning of school:Railway Construction discipline was renamed as the Railway Construction Department two years later. Thereafter, whether it was taken over by Japanese, or it learned from the USSR in all aspects,its supreme position as the countrywide "Engineers'Cradle" had been further enhanced. The civil to military transition of disciplinary construction in 1958 had further strengthened and consolidated the school's overall advantages in engineering courses.Scholars who received architectural education under such background naturally followed the school motto of "Strict Specifications and Thorough Knowledge" and unobtrusively and imperceptibly succeeded HIT people's spirit of seeking truth from facts and working diligently", and devoting themselves to local construction throughout China.Though aiming high, "being modesty combined with the spirit of willingly serving the young and weak"is the general motto of HIT architectural scholars,namelessly ploughing in depth with ingenuity and without attracting public attention is the normal working state of most people, gladly enduring hardships, not making any grand elaboration, just carefully doing everything well based on humanism and in a down-to-earth manner not only in creation but also in, management or education as well as research. CHANG Huaisheng, ZHANG Jiaji, MEI Jikui, HOU Youbin, DENG Linhan, GUO Enzhang,TAO Yousong, CHENG Youling, etc. taught us when we studied at university, some of whom were still putting upon their full stretch on platform construction until the time around the year of 2000.Under their in fluences and inspirational motivation,a number of schoolmates admitted in 1977 and 1978 worked as teachers in their Alma Mater after graduation, greatly supplementing the faculty of architectural disciplines. Besides me, Zhang Lingling,Jin Guangjun, Liu Deming, Xu Su Ning, Liu Daping,Zhang Shanshan, Zou Guangtian and other alumni have been continuously tamping the foundation of architectural education of HIT for many years under the guidance of those senior teachers. Of course, many schoolmates have played a decisive role in construction and development of architectural discipline in different colleges and universities for many years since their graduation; more people are immersing themselves in the career as professional architects, devoting themselves to design, forming a business block with brand in fluences in the industry through much practical accumulation; there are also many excellent scholars who have been striving in the real estate industry for many years and made brilliant achievements, who are concerned about repaying their Alma Mater, and also representatives of doing business at a low tone. The word "mainstay"correctly depicts the contribution of HIT architectural alumni. One batch after another solid strength which is pursing excellence in its field with few of empty talks have been continuously trained up on the educational foundation that places focus on instruction and practice.

Although the school is located in the border area, it was running through international cooperation at its beginning, with very obvious internationalised characteristics until the 1950s,including many foreign teachers in teaching. When our generation entered the school, the tide of "going abroad" was popular. At present, studying and working abroad is no longer a rare event. Since our generation, the process from classroom learning to first-hand experiencing, or even to long-term immersing in international exchanges has been fast advanced. Cultural particularity of a region, a city or even a country becomes more obvious and easier to recognise. Going out can contribute not only to acuter experience and observation of cultures deeply rooted in various environments, but also to continuous introspection. Inheriting regional cultures from an international perspective, neither seeking any radical innovation, nor invariably sticking to something conservative, persisting in deep ploughing and striving for exploration in one industry is one of glimpses of HIT architectural alumni. This point can be seen partially through the direction of the school's traditional advantageous researches. As early as 60 years ago, Professor MEI Jikui took the lead in conducting site investigation and systematic research on nationwide sports buildings as a forerunner of the academic circle as per national requirements, successively completed a large number of influential stadium designs thereafter, and even trained up generations of of talented students through undergraduate and graduate training programmes for design and research. Many domestic experts and scholars engaged in sports building design and research were taught by him, and many of their works have been granted international prizes. Based on the Northeast frigid region, teachers and students of the school have been continuously exploring design strategies suitable for the frigid region in teaching and research for many years, optimising corresponding techniques, and cooperating with internationally famous scientific research institutions through platform construction for frigid region scientific laboratory. The practical transformation of academic achievements has not only benefited one region,but also sown the seed in people to cherish the local environment and natural conditions in minds of one generation of students after another.

The year when I was admitted by the school coincided with the reform and opening-up. In the past 40 years and more, what has been opened is not only the national gateway, but also our ideas; what has been brought to us is not only rapid economic growth, but also value pluralism. The extension of the architectural discipline has been consequently expanded. A building is more than a machine to live in and an aesthetic carrier, and it has become a medium for conveying ideas and representing values. Interactive cooperation between the architectural discipline and different disciplines is becoming increasingly broad and close. Or intentionally pursing, or changing and influencing unobtrusively and imperceptibly, new talents have emerged from every generation of HIT architectural alumni. Whether at the front line of education or in architectural practicing, the pursuit of values and significances often bring about changes or even subversion of previous patterns and methods,which requires the courage to face all challenges in the way of cutting off all means of retreat, as well as the unswerving conviction of facing all questions squarely. Embarking on a road which has never been taken by forefathers and tackling difficulties never met by forefathers, longing for and depicting an expectable future in mind made pioneers be able to bear temporary solitude. In the past 40 years and more, the school has been continuously making innovations on the basis of tamping disciplinary core in terms of personnel training and academic exploration, and teachers' conscious demonstration has been influencing every scholar who has gone out from here. With piety and enthusiasm for architecture, they are unwilling to leave any building in a set pattern or moderate pattern, striving to seek miracles in routine practice.

Despite the above being written, it seems that the vivid characteristics of HIT architectural scholars have not been defined yet, but it is just the characteristics of HIT alumni, pursuing no fantasy and making no deceptive show of power.Faces are flashing in my mind one by one, few of whom are glaring stars, but solid and decorous accomplishments have solidified HIT architectural scholars to a hundredweight force and made them as mainstay as firm as a rock in the architecture circle,and self-evident. □
