Billy Elliotis a wonderful musical with the heart， humor and passion to be called “the best show you'll ever see” by theNew York Post.

The musical is the joyous celebration of one boy's journey to make his dreams come true. The boy called Billy is brought up by his father in a northern mining town against the background of the historic miners' strike (1984—1985) . In the town， boys are expected to box， rather than dance， let alone dream of attending the Royal Ballet School. After a ballet class， Billy's talent is spotted by his dance teacher who encourages Billy to apply to the Royal Ballet. The encouragement follows Billy in his triumph （巨大成功）over adversity （逆境） and his fight to prove his doubters including his father and elder brother wrong by going all the way.

The original film of the same name， nominated for three Oscars and 13 BAFTA awards， captured（俘獲）the heart of people around the world. Reuniting the original creative team behind the film， the musical was directed by Stephen Daldry， with book and lyrics by Lee Hall who wrote the films screenplay， inspired in part by A. J. Cronin's novel—The Stars Look Down—about an earlier miners'strike. The music was composed by legendary（非常著名的） British singer， Sir Elton John.

The musical was first put on in London's West End in 2005 and was nominated for nine Laurence Olivier Awards， winning four including Best New Musical. The production is still running strongly， and its success led to productions in Australia， on Broadway and elsewhere. In New York， it won ten Tony Awards. It also won numerous awards in Australia including a record-tying seven Helpmann Awards.
