The most unlikely rare-bird couple alive now has company.

In 2011s animated hit Rio， domesticated macaw Blu （Jesse Eisenberg） and his wild same-species blind date Jewel （Anne Hathaway） hit it off and sent box-office sparks flying. Now， the birds—and the bees—have really kicked in for the 3-D sequel Rio 2.

The couple has three grown macaw children and has to deal with the discovery of unexpected relatives—a problem that affects the bird world as much as it does humans. To boot， there are new villains aiming to do some damage on the clan.

“Isnt there usually someone to spoil any party？”asks Kristin Chenoweth， who voices Gabi the poisonous frog. “We all have those people in our lives that just get in the way.”

Its a shame since Rio 2 starts off as a happy multi-species couples-fest. Blu has joined Jewel at a beautiful rare-bird reserve in Rio de Janeiro， and the couple has started a family consisting of eldest bird Carla （voiced by X Factor standout Rachel Crow）， brainy Bia （Hunger Games star Amandla Stenberg） and young boy Tiago （Loopers Pierce Gagnon）.

Little relationship annoyances， such as Blus continued un-macaw-like insistence on making pancakes for the kids， are no big deal. Blus former human owner Linda （Leslie Mann） has also moved from her cozy home in Minnesota to the reserve to be with wildlife preservationist Tulio （Rodrigo Santoro）.

But their perfect life gets disrupted when Jewel discovers that her long-lost father and his clan have been discovered hiding in the Amazon rain forest， where their habitat is under threat.

“So theres a big adventure to the Amazon，” says Brazilian director Carlos Saldanha. “Its very much a journey for Blu and Jewels family.”

Part of the issue is that Jewels relatives， led by her father Eduardo （voiced by Andy Garcia）， dont trust humans—no matter how well-meaning. And Eduardo doesnt accept Blu， even if the former house bird has learned to fly.

Theres also Jewels ex-boyfriend Roberto （Bruno Mars）， who stirs up Blus jealousy.

“Most of the sparks between the former couple are imagined through Blus eyes，” says Saldanha. “Its a little paranoia.”

Threats are very real， however， from Nigel， the evil sulphur-crested cockatoo （Jemaine Clement）. Defeated in the original film， Nigel is bent on revenge against the macaw family. “Hes better and badder than ever，” says Saldanha. “Hes a delicious villain.”

Nigel seeks the help of a non-speaking anteater called Charlie and Gabi the frog， who is crazy about Nigel. Chenoweth insists her poisonous character is not bad， just a little “misunderstood” and emotionally vulnerable.

“Have you ever been in love before？ Have you ever done something in the name of love you maybe wished you hadnt？ Thats my little Gabi，” she says.

In the tradition of Rios Oscar-nominated song， Real in Rio， the Nigel-Gabi pairing allows Chenoweth and Clement to sing together. The Broadway star calls the result “magic.”

“I will say it and stand by it， this is the best song by a poisonous frog ever，” says Chenoweth. “People love a song about heartbreak. Has it ever been told from the viewpoint of a female poisonous frog？ I dont think so.”

這真是太遺憾了，因?yàn)椤独锛s大冒險(xiǎn)2》剛開(kāi)場(chǎng)時(shí)還是一個(gè)快快樂(lè)樂(lè)的多物種愛(ài)侶大聚會(huì)。布魯和珠兒一起住在里約熱內(nèi)盧一個(gè)美麗的珍稀鳥(niǎo)類保護(hù)區(qū)內(nèi)。這對(duì)夫婦組建了一個(gè)家庭，家里還有長(zhǎng)女卡爾拉（由在《X音素》中表現(xiàn)出色的蕾切爾·克羅配音）、聰明伶俐的碧婭（《饑餓游戲》小明星阿曼德拉·斯坦伯格配音）以及小兒子提亞戈（參演《環(huán)形使者》的皮爾斯·加格農(nóng)配音）。

布魯依然很沒(méi)金剛鸚鵡范兒，老是給孩子們做煎餅，像這樣的家庭小矛盾也沒(méi)什么大不了的。布魯?shù)那爸魅肆者_(dá)（萊斯利·曼配音）也舍棄了她在（美國(guó)）明尼蘇達(dá)州舒適的家，和野生動(dòng)物保護(hù)學(xué)家圖里奧（羅德里格·桑托羅配音）一起住在保護(hù)區(qū)里。

不過(guò)，當(dāng)珠兒找到她那失蹤多年的父親時(shí)，這種悠閑的日子也到頭了——珠兒的父親及其家族在亞馬孫雨林被人發(fā)現(xiàn)，棲息地面臨威脅。

其中一部分麻煩是因?yàn)橹閮杭夷侨阂运赣H愛(ài)德華多（安迪·加西亞配音）為首的親戚們并不信任人類——不管對(duì)方多么充滿好意。盡管當(dāng)年那只家養(yǎng)寵物鳥(niǎo)已經(jīng)學(xué)會(huì)飛翔，布魯依然不被愛(ài)德華多所待見(jiàn)。

珠兒的前男友羅伯托（布魯諾·馬爾斯配音）也會(huì)出場(chǎng)，令布魯妒忌不已。

“這對(duì)前任情侶之間的許多火花其實(shí)都是布魯自己想象出來(lái)的，”沙爾丹哈說(shuō)?！斑@都有點(diǎn)妄想癥了?！?/p>

來(lái)自奈杰爾的威脅卻是千真萬(wàn)確的——這只暴虐成性的葵花鳳頭鸚鵡（杰梅奈·克萊門(mén)特配音）在第一部電影中被擊敗，決心要對(duì)金剛鸚鵡家族進(jìn)行報(bào)復(fù)?！八纫郧案鼌柡?，也更壞了，”沙爾丹哈說(shuō)?！八且粋€(gè)非常有趣的壞蛋?！?/p>

奈杰爾找來(lái)的幫手包括不聲不響的食蟻獸查理，以及對(duì)他非常著迷的毒蛙咖比?？现Z恩斯堅(jiān)稱，她這個(gè)有毒的角色并不是壞蛋，只是有點(diǎn)“被誤解”，感情上有點(diǎn)脆弱而已。

“你墮入過(guò)愛(ài)河嗎？你試過(guò)以愛(ài)情的名義做出一些追悔不及的蠢事嗎？那就是我的小咖比，”她說(shuō)道。

《里約大冒險(xiǎn)》的歌曲《真實(shí)的里約》曾獲奧斯卡提名。延續(xù)這一傳統(tǒng)，奈杰爾和咖比的搭檔讓肯諾恩斯與克萊門(mén)特可以一起合唱。這位百老匯明星說(shuō)這次合作“非常夢(mèng)幻”。
