A Civilization of 5,000 Years Ago
Five thousand years ago, the king of Liangzhu picked this region of rivers and lakes to build a capital city so that it would serve as the center of power and faith of the state.
He had the slightest idea that, five thousand years later, his palace terraces, his city walls, his mega water conservancy system, and his fine jade artifacts that symbolize power and faith, would become a world cultural heritage site with an outstanding universal value recognized by the UNESCOs World Heritage Committee.
With its city cite, its early state status and its honor of being a world heritage site,
Liangzhu Civilization can proudly stand side by side with other world civilizations of that time.
