Once relegated to the home, women have left their mark on the modern workplace. With equal opportunities now in place, women are able to choose whatever professional path they desire. If a 9 to 5 office job isnt your style, consider some of the fun and profitable professions available that are a little off the beaten path.
Wedding planner
While some women dream of their wedding day, others grow up to be wedding planners. Business opportunities are readily available, as more than 2 million weddings take place in the United States each year with an average spend of more than $1,000 per wedding for a wedding planner, according to The Wedding Report.
Public relations specialist
Attending events, speaking with the press and writing press releases are all part of a public relations specialists job. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the number of public relations jobs will grow, but that job-seekers will face stiff competition for even entry-level jobs.
Disney character
Imagine being paid to be a princess. For many women working at the Disney resorts, that is exactly what they do. The Walt Disney Company hires look-alikes to play the roles of Disney characters, like the Little Mermaid or Cinderella, at its Disneyland and Disney World resorts.
Retail buyer
Set fashion trends instead of following them by becoming a retail buyer. Most retail stores employ buyers who are responsible for selecting and purchasing the merchandise to be sold in the store. To be a buyer, you must have a good sense of who your customers are, be able to spot bargains and have good financial capabilities.
Chocolatier
If you want to have your chocolate and eat it too, consider becoming a chocolatier. Create new flavor combinations, market your product and sell it from your own confectionary store, or work for a large chocolate manufacturers and watch your creations be sold to the masses.
Home stager
When getting ready to sell their home, many people take advantage of home stagers to make the house more appealing to potential buyers. Home stagers rearrange furniture, eliminate clutter and make simple changes that give the home a warm, lived-in feel.
Personal shopper
If you love to shop, particularly when you are spending someone elses money, then you should consider becoming a personal shopper. Personal shoppers assess their clients needs, lifestyles, likes and dislikes and then put that knowledge to use by purchasing their clothing and accessories. Although the job does have a few drawbacks, like fussy clients, Entrepreneur.com reports that, “mostly, its a pretty good time.”
Doggy daycare
Women who love animals might consider opening a doggy daycare business. You can spend your days playing catch with Fido1, before sending him home at the end of the day.
Freelance writer
If the thought of working at home in your pajamas with a cup of hot tea sounds appealing, consider becoming a freelance writer. Write website content, marketing copy, scripts, newsletters, speeches or press releases for a variety of clients.
Brand marketing manager
Take charge of a well-known or new brand and watch how consumers react to your decisions. Brand marketing managers work with ad agencies, salesmen, retail stores and public relations to make sure their brands name is known. Attend photo shoots, commercial tapings and a variety of events designed to promote the brand.
