The Spanish Legation, formerly known as the "Lu Lankangs Residence", commonly called the Spanish villa, was founded in 1928. It was originally a summer villa built by Wang Daixi, a wealthy business wizard born in Bishan District who returned from studying in France. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the Spanish Legation moved to Chongqing with the government of the Republic of China and set up its office here. It is now the museum of Nanshan Botanical Garden.
The building adopts Mediterranean architectural style. There is a front pool inlaid between a pebble and a rocky beach, with fernleaf hedge bamboos stretching across the water and red fishes playing in the water. They are ingeniously integrated with the two pavilions, pool, flower stands and other landscapes, showing appealing originality. According to records, Soong Ching Ling once received Theodore H. White Chinese name Bai Xiude, a reporter from the US Time magazine here.
