Ladies and gentlemen,
Its my great honor to be here and give a speech titled “The importance of body language”. As we all know, words arent humans only means of communication. Gestures, facial expressions, body movements, postures and intonations can all convey messages. They are almost more important than verbal language!
To begin with, paying attention to someones body language can help us know when someone is not telling us the whole truth. Another important function of body language is to express our feelings about what we are discussing. Besides, body language may be the determining factor in a job interview. By understanding body language more effectively, we can decrease our chances of being misunderstood. However, there are so many cultural differences between people that we may find it hard to interpret body language around the world. Therefore, it is important and necessary that we learn to use and discern body language more effectively to become an effective communicator.
Thats all. Thank you for listening.

Paragraph 1:
The class spent the rest of the afternoon talking about what they could do to demonstrate how to be more civilized. They began to feel guilty about their behavior. “I left my footprints on the campus lawn,” one student said . “I once picked fruit from campus fruit trees,” another student said sadly. “I always leave the classroom without turning off the lights,” a third student said, pointing to the switch. “I used to crack melon seeds and throw them in the playground,” the last student said, shaking his head.
Paragraph 2:
Finally, Lucy said, “So it is high time for us to protect the environment.” Before Lucy could finish, the class nodded. She added, “The protection of the environment starts from our own, but to protect our common home depends on everyone.” The next day everyone attended class wearing a green tshirt with a message that said "I am not a nomad!" And, from then on, they set about showing that indeed they were not. And in the school the whole teachers and students succeeded in giving up being nomads again.

Dear Alice,
Im glad to hear from you. Im writing to share with you some suggestions concerning the issue youve mentioned.
To start with, its essential for you to have a hearttoheart communication with your parents. Expressing your real feelings and listening to them carefully can help to promote your mutual understanding. To ask for a chance to be independent, not only should you present to them your detailed summer plan, but also you should promise your parents to keep contact with them when you are away with your friends.
Hope my suggestions will be beneficial to you. Looking forward to your earliest reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Tom,
Im glad to receive your letter. Learning that you have difficulty in making new friends and find it hard to adapt to high school life, I have some advice for you.
First, youd smile and try to be friendly when you communicate with others. Besides, its wise to care about others. If youre ready to help them, they will understand you better. Whats more, to be a good listener is very important, which will make the speaker feel comfortable and happy. Last but not least, youd better take an active part in your class activities where you can show your talents and abilities.
Hope my suggestions will be beneficial to you. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

Suddenly my classmate Jenny rushed up to me, tears streaming down her face. She shouted at me with anger, “If you dont want my gift, you can just leave it instead of laughing at it. This is the best powder from my mum!” Before I could say a word, Jenny dashed out, leaving me dumb with deep regret. But soon I clenched my fingers and made up my mind to find Jenny and say sorry to her. There she was, sitting in a tree shadow wiping her eyes.
Along with my apologies, I told her the fact. I was not a mean girl by judging peoples presents. The reason why I complained in front of the girls was that I wanted to fit in, having a sense of belonging in the group. Hearing my sincere words, Jenny calmed herself down after constant sobs and said, “True friendship comes from genuine care and love for each other. I think thats our teachers intention of this “secret friend” assignment. That day, I learned to cherish real friendship.

Suddenly my classmate Jenny rushed up to me, tears streaming down her face. She wiped her eyes saying to me, “I sincerely apologize to you. It was my embarrassing gift that got you into trouble. My mom bought two boxes of powder, one for me and the other for my grandma. But I took the latter by mistake.” I felt regret about the mean words that I had said about the powder. “I am the one who should apologize.” with it, I hugged Jenny tightly.
Along with my apologies, I told her the fact. What I said about the powder was not what I had in mind. It was because I wanted to fit in I went against my usual rules of conduct. Hearing my sincere words, Jenny gave me a warm hug and said, “Now that our misunderstandings have been cleared up, lets be friends again.” Thanks to the teachers “secret friend” assignment, I not only had a sincere friend but also learned to value real friendship.
