Abstract： improving English reading ability can not only consolidate the language foundation， but also obtain the required information accurately and quickly， and help yourself easily pass the inspection of reading ability. It is the most important language ability after graduation， and also the main channel to obtain English information after work. Therefore， in daily English teaching， college teachers and students should pay more attention to reading ability.

According to the purpose of learning English， reading can be divided into learning reading， specific reading and leisure reading. The so-called learning reading is to let students learn language knowledge， communication methods and obtain general information in reading; the purpose of specific reading is very strong， which is to search for specific information; the rest of the leisure reading is to read with a leisure mentality， so that it becomes a kind of enjoyment. As a Chinese student， it is undeniable that most of our English reading is learning reading. In the process of learning， there is a lack of reading amount of professional scientific and technological literature， British and American classic literature and English newspapers. Teachers are not clear about the importance of reading these materials for the cultivation of reading ability. In the long run， reading a large number of English materials is of great help for the cultivation of English language sense and learning English well. But because it can't bring too much help to the test results in a short time， the teachers and students still put these on the edge in the extracurricular reading.

As the foundation of English， vocabulary plays an irreplaceable role. In the daily learning process， not only teachers should pay close attention to students' vocabulary， strengthen the assessment of vocabulary， but also we should clearly realize the importance of vocabulary， and let ourselves gradually pay attention to the accumulation of English vocabulary.

In the process of daily English reading， students tend to be distracted by something， but the distraction of attention will have a greater impact on the understanding of reading. Therefore， when reading， we should pay attention and read with purpose， so as to improve our attention and develop good reading habits.

The most important factor for students to understand some articles， especially the articles of scientific and technological literature， is that they have too little contact with these related words. The influence of vocabulary on improving English reading comprehension is not negligible. To get a large number of vocabulary， it must rely on a large number of reading. Learning Chinese is the same. When I was a child， I only listened repeatedly. When I grew up， besides listening， we relied on a lot of reading. Through the repeated memory of reading， more Chinese characters were printed in our minds. Learning English is the same. It is often because of a large number of questions and reading that can remember these words. Compared with other article types， the scientific and technological literature has too little contact time and times. Naturally， it is very strange to these professional vocabulary. This requires educators to incorporate a large number of scientific and technological documents into the category of reading in class and after class， and improve students' familiarity with them. According to Krashen's input hypothesis， reading is the main means of information input. Educators should provide enough， difficult and interesting reading materials for students in and out of class， and improve students' English reading ability by increasing reading volume.

From the differences between Chinese and English cultures， reading more English and American literature is very helpful to learn English well. It has been said that the easiest and most convenient way to understand the cultural essence of a country is to read the classic literature of the country. Therefore， we should read more classical literature works in the UK and the United States. In order to avoid the difficult books， we can start with simple learning books， even from the translation of Chinese works of British and American literature， especially the classical works translated by translators by direct translation to understand the British and American culture. Putting yourself in a certain environment is the best way to learn some skills.
