The Busiest Person in My Family
In my opinion, my father is the busiest person in the family. He works at a university. Besides giving lectures, he does most of the house work. Almost every day he has a full schedule and cant afford much leisure.
Yesterday, for example, he had to get up very early. He did some shopping, prepared our breakfast, and went to work in a hurry, because he had to go to the classroombefore 8 oclock. Right after the first two classes, he went to his office to prepare his lessons for the next day. He came back home at 12. He cooked our lunch and wrote a letter. After lunch he went out to mail the letter. Afterward, he had an appointment with his friend to talk some important thing over. On the way to work, he had his hair cut and shoes repaired. Then he went to the lab to do experiments. In the evening, he corrected studentsreports until 11.
Although my father is a very busy person, he feels happy. He often says:“Being idle will make me ill.”So he often finds something to do to keep himself busy.

Father Has Given up Smoking
My father used to be a heavy somker. He smoked more than 20 cigarets each day; therefore, he was the polluter wherever he went. My mother and I tried to persuade him to give it up. He gave it up many times but each time only for a few days or only for a few hours.
Once he declared that he would stop smoking right away under the pressure of my mother, and he threw his cigarets into the dustbin. The effect of his declaration lasted only for two days. Then I found him smoking again when he thought that he was alone and no one saw him. On the fifth day of his declaration, he smoked openly.
Last winter he got pneumonia. When he was well again, the doctor ordered him to give up smoking. To our delight, this time he really got rid of the habit. It seems that the doctors order is more effective than mothers scolding, my suggestion and his own declaration.

An Unfriendly Place
The moon is an unfriendly place. So there is neither air nor water, nor life of any kind. There is not much variety of acenery either. The sun and stars shine in the black sky and the extreme temperatures break rocks away from the surface of the mountains. Sound waves can only travel through the air, so the moon is a very silent world. The earth is shining more brightly than the stars. It looks like an immense ball.

An Unforgettable Evening
I shall long cherish the memory of that delightful evening I spent at home. My wife and I had a simple dinner alone, with a pleasant and interesting conversation. Then we sat at the piano and sang many of our favorite songs. When our throats grew weary, we turned on the stereo and danced to beatiful music. When our breath became short, we strolled, arm-in-arm, through our moonlit yard.
I was so very happy and I longed for more such evenings.
But alas——early the next morning, a truck pulled into our driveway and shattered my hope. It was the TV repairman.

I Love My kind Mother
My mother is a kind and gentle woman. She takes good care of her children and keeps them at school. I have a sister. My mother gives us every comfort. We love her and she loves us also.
My mother has too much to do in bringing us up. She gets up very early and sleeps very late every day. She works hard, yet without complaining. She is also a thrifty and hard-working woman. She saves every penny that she can and keeps everything in order. As she has been busy ever since she was young, she looks older than she really is. Her face is wrinkled, her hair becomes silver white, and some of her teeth become movable. But she works as hard as ever.
Often she says to us, “Work while you work, play while you play, If you do not work, you will become lazy and of no use to society.”What a piece of good advice this is!We must live up to it and always keep it in our mind.

A Careless Person
According to his mother, Roger is a careless person. He always forgets something else while hes doing something although he denies it. He insists that hes careful, but hes simply unlucky. So he gets into trouble everyday.
Yesterday was an unlucky day, according to him. After a days work, he felt tired and came to a park near his home to enjoy the quietness here. He bought a newspaper at the newsstand, and then seeing an empty bench across the path, he came up and wanted to read his newspaper there. He did look at the bench for a while to see whether it was clean. But he didnt notice the sign behind the bench which says“WET PAINT”. He sat there reading the newspaper for a few minutes, then left for home feeling much satisfied that nothing unhappy had happened to him that day. People behind him were laughing at the painted stripes on his clothes.

Styles of Clothing
Some ten years ago, the clothes the Chinese people wore were simple and monotonous. Men used to wear blue and gray tunics and trousers, and women used to wear blue or black blouses and skirts. When you were in some public places, you seemed to be in a forest of trees of the same kind in the same colour and appearance.
But now people have changed their custom in their clothing. Men begin to look for clothes which make them look more handsome;while women begin to dress themselves mor beautifully. When you are in a crowd of people, you seem to be in a garden of colourful flowers.
This change is the result of the policy of reform and opening up to the outside world in China. People dare to wear what they like to. And they become richer than before and can afford the varieties of clothes they want. They have no fear that they would be called bourgeois.
