Long time ago， a dragon caught a beautiful princess.The hero George saved her. The princess gave him a book for thanks. From then on， people give books to others as gifts. That is the beautiful legend of World Book Day.

World Book Day in Different Countries

In Spain

On World Book Day， people have many book activities（活動） in Spain. If the reader buys a book， he can get a rose. So many people take roses on the street on that day， like Valentine’s Day（情人節(jié)）.

In UK

As the day of April 23 coincides（重合） with the Easter Holidays（復(fù)活節(jié)假期）， the UK moves World Book Day to the first Thursday of March. There are more than 1000 activities on that day. The government（政府） gives each child a World Book Day Token（圖書日代用券）. Children can get favourite books for free（免費(fèi)）.

In South Korea

Look！ How beautiful the stamps（郵票） are！ The South Korean government issues（發(fā)行）“World Book Day” stamps every year. Children love to write letters more on that day.

In Australia

The Australian government sends new books to schools on World Book Day. Each student can get a new book. The government encourages（鼓勵） parents to read with their children. They enjoy reading time happily.

Tips for World Book Day

① The largest library

In Asia： the National Library of China（中國國家圖書館）.

In the world： American Library of Congress（美國國會圖書館）.

② The first book in Chinese history is I-Ching（《易經(jīng)》）.

③ Books have ID cards（身份證）. On the ID cards， we can see name（book title）， date of birth（publication date）， home dress（publisher） and ID number（ISBN）.
