Auckland is the biggest city in New Zealand. It has apopulation2 of more than a million. That is to say， a quarter ofall New Zealanders live there. It has a large population byNew Zealand standards3， it is also a large city. GreaterAuckland covers4 6，232 square miles. Its a very large city byworld standards. In fact， Auckland is made up of a number ofsmaller cities which all join together.

At the same time， many islands8 were formed in the harbour. The mostfamous one is Rangitoto. You can see it from all over Auckland.

That makes Auckland a truly multi-cultural10 city.

For the young andfashionable14， Ponsonby is the place for expensive restaurants， clubs and night life.
