Ice climbing， a niche extreme sport that originated in Europe as early as the 1500s， has grown in popularity in China over the last decade. Featuring both natural and artificial icefalls， the Yunmeng Mountain scenic area in the suburban Miyun district of Beijing has become a popular venue for the sport.
