Having breakfast and dinner earlier can lower the risk of heart attacks or strokes, new research suggests.
An international team, led by French scientists, finds that people who eat their first meal at 9 am have a 6% higher chance of developing cardiovascular disease than those who have breakfast at 8 am.
Additionally, eating after 9 pm is linked to a 28% increased risk of cerebrovascular diseases, such as strokes, especially in women, when compared to eating before 8 pm. They also note a 6% increase in disease risk for each hour of delay.
Researchers attribute this risk partly to modern Western eating habits, such as late dinners or skipping breakfast. These habits disrupt the daily cycle of food intake and fast, which is essential for synchronizing the body’s peripheral clocks or circadian rhythms, impacting functions like blood pressure regulation.
