很多同學(xué)不清楚other(s)，the other(s)和another的用法，以致于在使用中常常出錯(cuò)。下面就簡(jiǎn)要區(qū)分一下它們的用法。

1. other用作形容詞時(shí)，意為“其他的”。例如：

We study Chinese，English，maths and other subjects. 我們學(xué)習(xí)漢語(yǔ)、英語(yǔ)、數(shù)學(xué)和其他課程。

2. others常和some對(duì)比使用，意思是“有些”，而不是“其他的”。例如：

Some students were playing football，while others were playing volleyball. 一些學(xué)生在踢足球，另一些學(xué)生在打排球。

3. the other意為“兩個(gè)中的另一個(gè)”，常見(jiàn)于“one... the other...”結(jié)構(gòu)。例如：

I have two books. One is with a red cover，while the other is with a white cover. 我有兩本書(shū)，一本是紅皮的，另一本是白皮的。

One side of the road is covered with flowers ，while the other side is covered by sand. 路的一邊長(zhǎng)滿(mǎn)了花，然而另一邊卻是沙地。

4. the others表示在一定范圍內(nèi)“其余的全部人或物”。例如：

The dictionary is better than the others. 這本詞典比其余的都要好。

Some students went to see a film，while the others were doing their homework. 一些學(xué)生去看電影了，剩下的都在做作業(yè)。

5. another指不定數(shù)目中的“另一個(gè)”。例如：

This jacket is big. Please get me another. 這件上衣有點(diǎn)大，請(qǐng)?jiān)俳o我拿一件。

another還可以和“數(shù)詞 + 復(fù)數(shù)名詞”連用。例如：

Another ten students joined the League. 又有10位同學(xué)加入了共青團(tuán)。

另外，請(qǐng)注意以下兩個(gè)詞組的用法：

1) any other后面跟單數(shù)名詞和any of the other后面跟復(fù)數(shù)名詞，可以與“比較級(jí) + than”連用，表示最高級(jí)的意思。例如：

He is taller than any other student in our class. (= He is taller than any of the other students in our class.) 他的個(gè)子比我們班其他同學(xué)的個(gè)子都高。(意即：他是我們班個(gè)子最高的同學(xué)。)

2) other than意為“除了”，意思上相當(dāng)于except/apart from。例如：

You cant get there other than by boat. 除了坐船去，用別的方法你到不了那里。

There was nothing we could do other than (but) wait. 除了等待以外，我們沒(méi)有別的辦法。
