The total solar eclipse to occur in nearly 500 years, took place in China on the morning of July 22nd, 2009. The solar eclipse, which lasted over six minutes, was visible in more than 40 cities in China, including Hangzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuxi, Suzhou, Changzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan and Hefei.

Mr. Cronkite reported many events from 1937 to 1981, including bombing in World War II, the Nuremberg trials, combat in the Vietnam War,assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., Watergate, and the Iran Hostage Crisis, who became the nation's bearer of epochal tidings that punctuated the era. He was known for extensive TV coverage of the U.S. space program, from Project Mercury to the Moon landings, to the Space Shuttle. He was the only non-NASA recipient of a Moon-rock award, for which he became virtually the national voice of the space program.
