As the plane circled over the airport, everyone guessed that something was wrong. The plane was moving unsteadily through the air and the passengers were suddenly thrown forward. At that moment, the airhostess (空姐) appeared. She looked very pale, but was quite calm. Speaking quickly but almost in a whisper, she told everyone that the pilot was badly ill and asked if any of the passengers knew anything about machines or at least how to drive a car. After a moment, a man got up and followed the hostess into the pilots room.
Moving the pilot beside him, the man took his seat and listened carefully to the orders that were being sent by radio from the airport below. The plane was now dangerously close to the ground, but it soon began to climb. The man had to circle the airport several times in order to be used to the controls. But the danger had not yet passed. The terrible moment came when he had to land. Following orders, the man controlled the plane towards the airport. 閱讀表達(dá)(閱讀下面短文,并按照題目要求用英語回答問題。)
Hello! Its one of the first words we learn as babies, yet its one of the last ones we think to use as adults. Thats unfortunate, because saying hello is more than just saying hello, it is recognition of anothers worth. How might the world change, how might we change, if we mastered this word? To find out, I spent one month saying hello to every person I met. Heres what Ive learned.
It can boost (促進(jìn)) productivity. In one of the few studies ever done on this subject, Allan Allday, an assistant professor of special education at Oklahoma State University, had middle school teachers greet their students individually each morning. This exchange of greetings raised the kids productivity. Teachers and students got friendlier so that the students became more active in learning.
Environments influence friendliness. One study found that people in the city were less likely to shake hands with a stranger than those in the countryside. And, researchers say pleasant environments generally encourage more smiles and hellos than unpleasant ones, My experience was similar. Whatever the reason, my urban hellos were answered far less often than my rural one. Similarly, people in vacation spots, like the Jersey Shore, were far friendlier than those hurrying work downtown.
Its a form of universal health insurance. Its impossible to say hello without smiling. And smiling has been shown to lower blood pressure, relieve stress and boost happiness. Apparently, a smile creates a similar effect in the recipient (接受者).
So maybe we can make the world a better place by saying hello to each other. After a month of doing it, I feel lighter and more connected and I have a better sense of well-being.

Captain Joseph Mackeys airplane was flying over the ocean on its way to Great Britain when engine trouble started. He turned back and made a crash-landing (突然降落) at night in the deep snow of Newfoundland. All the men in the plane were killed except Captain Mackey, who was badly hurt.
