“China believes in the equality of all countries, large and small, and we dont believe some countries should lead others. The United Nations, as the most authoritative and credible intergovernmental organization, should effectively play its role of coordinating international affairs according to the purposes and principles of its Charter. Rather than talking about leadership, we should really be talking about responsibility. Instead of seeking to become a global leader, China will shoulder more responsibility and contribute more to world peace and growth. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will fulfill its obligation to international peace and security, promising due contribution to world growth as China is the worlds second largest economy. Meanwhile, as the worlds largest developing country, China will also play a bigger role in upholding the legitimate rights and interests of fellow developing countries.”
These remarks were made at a press conference on the sidelines of the annual session of the National Peoples Congress on March 8 by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in response to a question about whether China is trying to displace the United States to seek global leadership.
“Political mutual trust serves as the foundation for the 45-year-long China-Mexico diplomatic relationship. Since its establishment, the bilateral ties have passed significant milestones, guided by mutual political trust. In 2003, the two countries established a strategic partnership, which was then upgraded into a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2013. Over the past 45 years, top leaders of both countries have made many exchange visits. Since 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mexican President Enrique Pe?a Nieto have made three exchange visits and held six meetings, reaching consensus on the future development of bilateral ties, ushering in a new era for its speedy development. Backed by mutual political trust, the two countries mutual strategic support has been constantly deepened in the global arena. This has been demonstrated in both the activities of such international institutions as the UN, G20 and APEC, and discussions about major global issues such as climate change, sustainable development, globalization, and free trade. The two sides have cooperated closely and actively contributed to their joint development.”
These comments were made by the Chinese Ambassador to Mexico Qiu Xiaoqi in his signed article “Building a Friendship Bridge Leading to a Bright Future” published in El Sol de Mexico to honor the 45th anniversary of ChinaMexico diplomatic relations.
