在當(dāng)今繁星璀璨的歐美娛樂天空，Passenger樂隊并不算一顆非常明亮的星。直到2012年作品《讓她走》（Let Her Go）問世，樂隊才從舞臺邊緣走向了舞臺中央，并憑借此歌在各國的音樂排行榜中攻城拔寨，真正地火了一把。

能在歌迷中引起共鳴的歌曲往往都是走心之作。而很多走心的作品也是創(chuàng)作者欲將心事付瑤琴的心血之作，能讓聽者在歌中讀到作者的故事，又看到聽者自己的影子，于是心有戚戚焉。同屬療傷系的Let Her Go的創(chuàng)作過程也大致屬于這一類。

主創(chuàng)兼主唱Michael David Rosenberg是一名英國獨立音樂人，這首歌的創(chuàng)作背景也是他本人的親身經(jīng)歷。創(chuàng)作這首歌曲之前，他和戀人剛分手不久。一日他在澳大利亞為另一支樂隊助演，他的演出未贏得觀眾的好感，反響寥寥。在失望、失落、失意中，往日和前女友花前月下的回憶忽然如潮水般洶涌，讓他無比眷戀，仿佛風(fēng)雨中的異鄉(xiāng)人忽然想回家一般?；貞泿铀囆g(shù)的靈感，推動創(chuàng)作的欲望，在很短的時間內(nèi)他一氣呵成，將對前女友的思念譜入樂譜，創(chuàng)作出這首估計他自己也沒想到后來會大紅大紫的作品。用他自己的話說，歌曲的靈感pouring out of him。

縱觀歌曲的副歌部分“You only need the light when its burning low， only miss the sun when it starts to snow”“Only know youve been high when youre feeling low， only hate the road when youre missing home”，所有類比其實都是為“Only know you love her when you let her go”作鋪陳，這句才是歌曲真正的落腳點和歸宿。

一般的歌曲都是先主歌，后副歌。而這首歌在前奏之后，先進入由吉他和鍵盤輕盈伴奏的副歌，然后引入鼓點、貝斯等樂器，節(jié)奏變強，進入主歌，之后進入副歌，再主歌，再副歌，最后引入阿卡貝拉無伴奏模式，在歌手的清唱中收尾。整首歌曲優(yōu)美婉轉(zhuǎn)，歌詞押韻工整，節(jié)奏層次分明，帶動力強，情感隨歌曲的演進層層遞進，由淺入深，由輕漸濃，最后在高潮時突然中止，在歌手憂郁的清唱聲中留下無限惋惜和遺憾，也讓聽眾深深沉湎于舊情難舍的無限感慨中。

據(jù)說歌手的前女友后來也知道這首歌為她而作。但可惜生活不是肥皂劇，最后并未出現(xiàn)兩人因一首情歌就重歸于好的橋段。在2014年接受《滾石》（Rolling Stone）采訪時，Rosenberg告訴記者：“Were good friends now … I think shes still kind of got mixed feelings about it. Shes happy for me， but it is pretty weird.”

Passenger這支樂隊最早由Rosenberg和Andrew Phillips組建于2003年，但四年之后才出第一張也是最后一張專輯。很快Phillips選擇離開，樂隊在2009年正式解散。但Rosenberg選擇扛起Passenger的大旗，之后一直以Passenger的名義繼續(xù)他的演藝事業(yè)。
