In Australia, people see kangaroos everywhere. There are more kangaroos than people in this country. This year, the country plans to (打算) kill about 1 million kangaroos. Kangaroos eat lots of grass on grasslands.Grasslands are home to birds and reptiles (爬行動(dòng)物). Kangaroos are doing harm to (對(duì)……有害) the homes of those small animals. The country wants to save its grassland and other animals.
Many ideas
Whats your opinion of this plan?
Murray:Hi, Im Murray from Australia. I really like kangaroos. In Australia, they are always eating grass by the roadside (在路邊). They are very cute. But there are so many of them. Killing animals is not very nice. But this plan will save lots of other kinds of animals. So I think the plan is a good idea.
Some Australians think the plan is not a good idea. Kangaroos are native (本土的) animals in Australia. They eat grass and keep the grass short. Not as many fires start when the grass is short. And some experts are worried about the future of kangaroos. Kangaroos could disappear(消失) because of this plan.

Chris lives in Australia. About 20 years ago, he built a home to save baby kangaroos. Some babies dont have moms. Chris has to take care of them. At night, he keeps wild dogs (野狗) away from his house. Wild dogs can hurt baby kangaroos.
In Australia about 20,000 kangaroos die in car accidents (車禍) each year. They usually jump onto the road out of nowhere. Cars hit them immediately (緊接著). But a car company uses a radar (雷達(dá)) to save kangaroos. The radar can find kangaroos. And the car stops before it hits a kangaroo.

In Australia, kangaroos like to live in the bush. They eat leaves and insects (昆蟲) too. Kangaroos have strong back legs. They jump on their back legs. Their heavy tail balances (平衡) their body when they jump. Kangaroos live in groups and help each other. The mother kangaroo has a pouch (育兒袋) for a baby kangaroo. A newborn (剛出生的) kangaroo is very small. It is as big as a bean. After its birth, it climbs into its mothers pouch. It leaves the pouch when it is 10 months old.
