International and national trade fairs in Germany in 2017 have posted the highest increases in their most important key figures for five years. The 157 fairs held last year registered 3.7% more exhibitors, which booked 3.1% more stand space compared with their respective preceding events. The number of visitors was the only key figure to remain constant, due to lower attendance at automotive shows. These final figures were calculated by AUMA – the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry.

In 2017, the number of international exhibitors rose by more than 6% and the number of international visitors by more than 4%. German exhibition organisers posted sales of around 3.7 billion euros in 2017, a higher figure than ever before for an odd-numbered year with a relatively low number of events. The year 2018 will see more events for interval-based reasons, so turnover is expected to exceed 3.8 billion euros.

Trade fairs in the first four months of 2018 registered 2% more exhibitors and 3% more stand space than their preceding events, with visitor levels remaining stable. Once again, there has been an above-average rise in the number of exhibitors from abroad.

In June, Wolfgang Marzin, President and CEO of Messe Frankfurt, announced: “We are aiming for around 700 million in sales.” Since 2010, Messe Frankfurt Group sales have increased by around 50 percent – from 448 million to around 669 million in 2017.

ITE Group plc published a trading update for the period from April 1, 2018 to June 30, 2018. As of July 6, 2018, the Group had booked circa £153m of revenue for the 2018 financial year (June 30, 2017: £145m). On a like-for-like basis, these bookings are 13% ahead of the same time last year.

BolognaFiere, the second largest events organiser in Italy after Milan, recorded 126 million euros in revenue for 2017, not quite hitting the figures achieved in the previous year, but exceeding the revenue for 2015, the business cycle reference year (119 million euros). 26% of the companys revenue—some 35 million euros—was made outside Italy, with eight of the 80 fairs and events of 2017 being held abroad, including in Russia, various Asian countries and the US.
