One of the easiest ways to stop the spread of diseases is to simply wash our hands. Twenty seconds of hand-washing with soap can greatly prevent illnesses and even save lives.

However， many people， especially children， do not have good hand-washing habits. They do not wash their hands often enough or long enough as they think it is a tiresome thing to do.

In order to help solve this problem， two women from India invented a product and it turned hand-washing into an interesting activity. They called it the Soapen. As the name suggests， the Soapen is made out of soap. According to the inventors， this product ensures that children take enough time to wash their hands. Children draw on their hands with the Soapen and then wash it off. If they do not spend enough time washing it， the colors remain on their hands. It usually takes a child twenty to forty seconds to wash it off completely.

It’s a really fun way to help children get into good hand-washing habits， isn’t it？ This may be especially helpful in a classroom as teachers usually don’t have the time to ensure that every child has washed their hands properly.

As everyone knows， diarrhea can be prevented by washing hands with soap. However， it’s reported that around 1.5 million children die each year as a result of diar-rhea. UNICEF says good hand-washing habits can reduce the number by 40 percent. Hopefully， this wonderful invention will make a big difference to public health in the near future.
