Once upon a time there was a town filled with rats.
Rats in the alleys, rats in the houses,
rats cuddled in doorways and lounging on couches.
Some were on the roof, some lay in jars,
some slept in beds, while others jumped on bars.
“There are too many rats,” the townsfolk all said.
They didn’t know what to do, so they all felt a tad sad.
When one day a man came strolling down the lane.
He wore a strange hat and carried with him a cane;
under his arm was a flute, and it looked a bit strange.
He shouted, “I’m the Pied Piper!”
“I hear you have trouble, and that’s why I've came.”
The townsfolk were so happy,
“Thank you Pied Piper for being so kind and nice.
We will remember your name, and pay you a great price!”
The Pied Piper started to dance on the spot
before playin g his flute and starting to trot.
He walked all through the town,
and the rats began to follow.
It was the sound of his flute.
After he had them all gathered,
they wandered far from the town
to the edge of the river,
where soon they all drowned.
The Pied Piper went back to the town and asked for his fare.
But the townsfolk refused to pay him and left his pockets quite bare.
The townsfolk all left and the Pied Piper intended to teach them a lesson.
So he pulled out his flute, and played a song for their betrayal.
All the children in the town heard the sweet song,
they stopped playing and began to follow the song.
So the Pied Piper took all the children from the town, causing the townsfolk to wear giant frowns.
The townsfolk realized their mistake and apologized.
The Pied Piper got paid and forgave them.
All the children were also back.
