Benjamin Reina, a native of Brest in northwestern France, a student studying aboard, is a part-time French teacher at an institution in Chongqing. He loves China, Chongqing, travel and food.
If you ask me which country I come from, I would say I was born in France, but I am a "fake Frenchman".
Why is that? Because I have been in China for many years, I really like and understand China so much that my friends affectionately call me "China hand".
In China, I have traveled from south to north, and made many friends. The north is quite decent, the northeast is generous, and the east is shrewd. This year, I came to Chongqing, and met my new friend, Chongqing.
Chongqing people are passionate, just like the summer here.
Chongqing is also very receptive to foreigners, not at all as conservative as I thought inland cities would be. The boss of the dumpling shop which I often visit likes to chat with me and teaches me how to make Wonton; Taxi drivers are happy all the way to introduce me the characteristics of Chongqing when see me, a foreigner; the teachers at school always communicate with me like friends.
Remember the first day when I went to school for enrollment, my friends' parents drove from far away to take me to eat special snacks, stroll around the city, and even deliberately let me stay at their home in the evening, treated me with a very good Sichuan cuisine, as kind to me as family.
Our teacher told me that Chongqing used to be a big wharf, so it continued to have a wharf culture and simple and honest mountain people habits, and was very "down-to-earth". I also like to make friends with Chongqing people. At night, we would go out drinking and lū chuàn, gorging on meat.
Chongqing People speak briefly and forcefully, which is a little different from the Sichuan dialect I heard in Chengdu. Sichuan dialect is gentle and soft. I think it has something to do with people's straightforward and enthusiastic character in Chongqing: "Would like to eat hot pot?" "Dou Nen Ge!"
Chongqing snack is "Hei Ba Shi". I have heard of Sichuan and Chongqing's spicy taste before in the north, and I happen to be a true "heavy taste", which also shows that I am a "fake foreigner". In France, I always love to buy food ingredients in Chinese supermarkets, watch videos to learn to cook southern Chinese food, so I yearn for Sichuan and Chongqing life.
On the first day I came to Chongqing, I ate the authentic Chongqing hot pot, which is too tasty and too delicious, and is different from the spicy pot I ate in the north. I finally knew why Chongqing hot pot is famous throughout the Country. Hot pot is the representative of Chongqing cuisine and the city's business card, so that people often say: "If you don't eat hot pot in Chongqing, then you have never been to Chongqing!"
In Europe, we don't eat animal entrails. When eating hot pot, I was a little scared at first when I saw the entrails. I tried the duck intestine and found it soft and delicious. I found that hot pot is a magical food, which makes people "addictive", no matter spring, summer, autumn and winter, people eager to eat hot pot.
The bustling snack streets and restaurants in Chongqing also linger in my mind, such as Barbecue, Hot and Sour Rice Noodles, Chongqing Noodles, Gross Blood Mong, Braised Chicken, and so on, can satisfy me, such a "foreigner foodie." Because the European diet is very light, mostly salad, bread, chicken-based, I didn't get used to Chongqing food and often got a run when I just came to Chongqing, which was really a wry experience. Now, I get used to it.
Chongqing is a city with high "beauty". On my first day in Chongqing, I was attracted by the topographic characteristics of the city, which, unlike other cities I had visited, was a veritable "mountain city" with high and low roads and buildings, as if the whole city were built on a mountain.
In Chongqing, the first landmark I saw was the People's Liberation Monument, a symbol of Chongqing's spirit, which looked at Chongqing's past and present.
I have been to the cyberstar place Hongyadong several times. I prefer Hongyadong at night to daytime. The traditional building is mainly designed with wooden or bamboo houses supported by wooden pillars, built on the cliff. During the daytime, it is like a plain peasant girl, whereas at night when the lights are brilliant, it is like a girl with a strong makeup. It attracts many tourists, where they take pictures, eat snacks, bustling with noise and excitement.
I'd like to recommend Nanshan as the best place to enjoy the night view of Chongqing. On Mid-Autumn Festival, my friends and I went to Nanshan to enjoy the night scene. We were eating moon cakes while chatting to enjoy the beautiful scenery, with the whole night of Chongqing in front of us. Looking at the lights of Yuzhong District across the river, "Hello Chongqing, Hello World" displayed on the WFC was just like greeting me, "Chongqing welcome you".
The first thing I want to do when I go to a city is to know its history and culture. Chongqing has a long history of culture. I like to visit the cultural resorts of Chongqing by bus.
"Bayu culture" has left many traces of history from ancient times to the present, most of the walls of Chongqing ancient city have disappeared for historical reasons, but I am fortunate to see the Tongyuan Gate, which gives me a sense of integrity. At the gate, the people riding a horse with weapons, looks like the battlefield at ancient Chinese gates in the TV series.
I believe that every country, including Europe, is the same. Where there are rivers, there are people living here. Chongqing has the Yangtze River, Wujiang River, Jialing River. That's why we call Chongqing "Jiangcheng". There is a unique "dock culture". The undulating planes and wellarranged layout of Chongqing make it called "Mountain City". Once at Chaotianmen dock, a group of people who made money with wooden sticks worked there, who were affectionately called "Mountain City Stick Army". It is very interesting. They could make money by working with wooden sticks and doing exercise.
In my eyes, the charm of Chongqing is far more than these, the metropolis with perfect combination of history and modern, both historical and cultural charm of the ancient city, but also the fashion flavor of developed cities.
Like a city, perhaps because of a person; Like a city, perhaps because of the development there; Like a city, perhaps because there is food … For me, I love Chongqing more than all these simple reasons, because I love this land.
In my eyes, Chongqing is like a vigorous young man, I love the hardworking and selfimprovement of the city.
