Wilbur Wright was born in 1867. Orville Wright wasborn in 1871. They were brothers.

One day， they lay on the grass after playing.A hird flew by in the sky. "Look. how free thebird is in the skyl" said Orville. "If wecould fly like birds， howhappy we would bel"said Wilbur.

They caught a bird and tied astring to its foot. When the birdstopped， they looked at its wings.When the bird flew， they watched how its wingsworked.

After a short time. the two brothers made akite. The kite flew high in the sky. They werevery happy. "We will ruake a kite big enough totake us to the sky，" they said.

On Christruas Day， Dad gavethem a flying toy as a gift. It had apaper body. Other parts were made ofcork and bamboo. The rubber bandscould ruake it fly. They made the littletoy fly in the room so much so that they broke it. "Someday， we will fly in the skylike the toy，" they said to each other.

Orville sold kites at school to make money. Wilbur started reading about howbirds flew and machines worked.

When they grew up， they opened a bicycle shop. They could fix anythinganyone asked theru to fix. In the bicycle shop， the idea of the airplane was born.

In 1900， they made a large kite. It was their first glider. Wilbur flew on it for afew seconds. Three years later， they made a real airplane， the Flyer l. It was thefirst airplane in the world.
