1. somewhere adv. 在某處; 到某處

I want to go somewhere warm. 我想去一個溫暖的地方。

【辨析】 somewhere， anywhere， nowhere

somewhere意為“一些地方”，常用于肯定句中;anywhere意為“任何地方”，常用在疑問句或否定句中;nowhere意為“沒有地方”，本身具有否定含義。

I've got a feeling I've seen him before somewhere. 我有種感覺——我以前曾在哪里見過他。

Did you find anywhere relaxing？ 你找到令人放松的地方了嗎？

During the winter holiday I went nowhere， and just stayed at home. 整個寒假，我哪都沒有去，就待在家里。

2. invention n. 發(fā)明物，發(fā)明

invention為可數(shù)名詞，也有“創(chuàng)意，創(chuàng)造力”之意，此時為不可數(shù)名詞。

Necessity is the mother of invention. 需要乃發(fā)明之母。

4. unbelievable adj. 難以置信的;不真實的

It is unbelievable that the little boy finished these difficult tasks in one day. 令人難以置信的是，這個小男孩在一天內(nèi)完成了這些困難的任務(wù)。

【拓展】 believe是動詞;形容詞是believable“可相信的”;反義詞是unbelievable“難以置信的;不真實的”

5. unusual adj. 特別的;不尋常的

She is an unusual teacher. She has taught in a village school for 30 years. 她是一位不同尋常的老師。她在一所鄉(xiāng)村學(xué)校教書30年了。

【拓展】 usual是形容詞，意為“通常的;尋常的”;usually是副詞，意為“通常地”

The first snow came a month earlier than usual. 第一場雪比往年提早了一個月。

6. encourage v. 鼓勵

Investors were encouraged by the news. 那個消息給了投資者信心。

【拓展】 encourage sb. to do sth.意為“鼓勵某人做某事”，為固定搭配。

My father always encourages me to try different things. 我父親總是鼓勵我嘗試不同的事情。

She often encourages me not to give up. 她經(jīng)常鼓勵我不要放棄。

7. peaceful adj. 和平的;安寧的

8. thousand num. 一千

Thousands of birds have come back because the environment here becomes better and better. 成千上萬的鳥飛回來是因為這里的環(huán)境越來越好。

【拓展】 thousands of意為“數(shù)以千計的;許許多多的”。thousand與數(shù)詞連用時常使用單數(shù)，與of連用時常使用復(fù)數(shù)。
