A week ago “Sports for Life” program was sent to the parents, requiring them to select a sport they wanted their child to play. Since then our staff have received lots of calls from parents asking for more information about it. Here is a memo (備忘錄) for your reference when you answer the phones.
Sports 1: Basketball
We expect that this will be the most popular of the three sports. Therefore, students should be advised to sign up as soon as possible. Students will take a private bus to and from Kwun Tong Sports Park. Each student will have to pay for the cost of hiring a bus. There will be four basketball courts available for our use with one teacher watching over each game.
Sports 2: Gym
We will be using St Peter’s Memorial Park. There are two reasons for choosing this park. First, it is not very busy and crowded before 6:00 pm. Second, there are lots of trees with plenty of shade there. Three activities, skipping, jogging, outdoor aerobics (有氧運動), all of which are free of charge, will be arranged. And there will be a teacher on duty for each of the activities.
Sports 3: Hiking
Hiking will take place at Kowloon Peak. The activity will start at 2:30 pm and finish 90 minutes later. Three teachers will accompany the students, and a hiking instructor will accompany each group of 15 hikers. Each instructor will cost $75/hr.
21. What is the main purpose of the memo?
A. To attract more students to join in. B. To explain “Sports for Life” to the staff.
C. To collect more ideas about the program. D. To inform teachers and students of the program.
22. Why should students register early to join in Sports 1?
A. There will probably be too many students.
B. The school has only a few basketball courts.
C. There are not enough basketball teachers to go with them.
D. A bus will be hired to take them to Kwun Tong Sports Park.
23. When will Sports 3 end?
A. At 6:00 pm. B. At 4:00 pm. C. At 3:30 pm. D. At 2:30 pm.

I grew up with a birth defect (缺陷) known as spina bifida, a disability that affects my sense of balance, causing me to walk with a limp (跛行).
As a young child, I could remember the way other children would look at me and stare because of the way that I walked. There were many times that my schoolmates would laugh at me and call me names simply because of their lack of understanding of why I was a little different.
Now that I am an adult, I have noticed that the stares and names have begun to disappear gradually, and judgments that once were negative have begun to turn toward acceptance. Now I look beyond what I can’t do and focus on what I can. I have learned that limitations open doors that have been closed, showing other ways to meet our needs. I have always looked at life as a challenge, grasping each obstacle with open arms. There is nothing in this world that comes easy. I must stand tall and look forward, to be ever so ready for what still lies ahead.
People often feel sorry for those who were born with some type of disability. But their compassion is misplaced. Yes, I may not be able to run as fast or perform certain tasks, but my disability gives me a better look at life and all that’s around me. I want to be seen not as a person with a disability but as a person who has and will continue to bloom.
So I decide to become an advocate (提倡者) as a representative of disabled Americans, to fight for our rights which have been ignored for so long. I feel that it only takes one powerful voice to change the minds of many nations, and as long as I have a mouth to use and a mind to think I will continue to work to bring peace upon the disabled community.
24. Spina bifida made the writer ___ .
A. walk with a limp B. grow up to be short
C. lose the sense of balance D. lose the access to education
25. Because of the writer’s disability, his classmates ___ .
A. worried about him very much B. made fun of him sometimes
C. tried to treat him in a different way D. gave him as much help as they could
26. What does the writer think the disabled should do?
A. Learn to protect themselves. B. Know their weakness first.
C. Find out what they can do. D. Set a high goal.
27. What can we infer about the writer from the text?
A. He hasn’t achieved much in his life. B. He still hates the way he used to be treated.
C. He is regarded as a very useful person now. D. He is now fighting for the rights of all the disabled.

There are many ways to find a job. It can be as easy as walking into a neighborhood store to look at its announcement board. Local stores often have areas where people can put small signs telling what kind of service they need or can provide. Such services include caring for children or cleaning houses.
Or job searchers can look in the newspaper. Local newspapers have employment announcements placed by companies seeking workers.
Another popular tool for finding jobs is the Internet. For example, people in four hundred and fifty cities around the world can use the Craigslist website to buy objects, meet people or find a job. Craigslist says that it receives two million new job listings each month.
Another useful way to find a job is through a college or university. For example, students at the University of Texas in Austin can go to the Career Exploration Center to get help in finding a job. Of course, looking for a job requires knowing what kind of work you want to do. For example, there is a book called What Color is Your Parachute (降落傘)? by Richard Bolles. This book has been helping people choose a career since it was first published in 1970.
Some experts also help people find jobs. Susan W. Miller owns a company called California Career Services in Los Angeles. She says her company helps people find jobs by first helping them understand their strengths, goals and interests. Then she provides them with methods and resources to help them find the right job.
28. What can you do on the Craigslist website?

Parents and kids today dress alike, listen to the same music, and are friends. Is this a good thing? Sometimes, when Mr Ballmer and his 16-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, listen to rock music together and talk about interests both enjoy, such as pop culture, he remembers his more distant relationship with his parents when he was a teenager.
“I would never have said to my mom, ‘Hey, the new Weezer album is really great. How do you like it?” says Ballmer. “There was just a complete gap in taste.”
Music was not the only gulf. From clothing and hairstyles to activities and expectations, earlier generations of parents and children often appeared to move in separate ways.
Today, the generation gap (代溝) has not disappeared, but it is getting narrow in many families. Conversations on subjects like sex would not have taken place a generation ago. Now they are comfortable and common. And parent-child activities, from shopping to sports, involve a feeling of trust and friendship that can continue into adulthood.
But family experts warn that the new equality can also result in less respect for parents. “There’s still a lot of strictness and authority (權(quán)威) on the part of parents out there, but there is a change happening,” says Kerrie, a psychology professor at Lebanon Valley College. “In the middle of that change, there is a lot of confusion among parents.”
Family researchers offer a variety of reasons for these different roles and attitudes. They see the 1960s as a turning point. Great cultural changes led to more open communication that encourages everyone to have a say.
“My parents were on the ‘before’ side of that change, but today’s parents, the 40-year-old, were on the ‘a(chǎn)fter’ side,” explains Mr Ballmer. “It’s not something easily gotten by parents these days, because life is more difficult to understand or deal with, but sharing interests does make it more fun to be a parent now.”
32. The underlined word “gulf” in Paragraph 3 probably means “___”.
A. understanding B. similarity? ? C. distance D. interest
33. What is the change in today’s parent-child relationship?
A. Parents are more respected by children. B. Parents and children are more equal.
C. Parents have more power than before. D. Parents and children have no difficulty with their communication.
34. From the last paragraph we can learn Mr Maller thinks today’s parents ___ .
A. They can set a limit to the change. B. They follow the need of the change.
C. They fail to take the change seriously. D. They have little difficulty getting used to the change.
35. What does the text mainly talk about?
A. The parent-child relationship in the past and at present.
B. The ways to deal with the parent-child relationship.
C. The development of the parent-child relationship.
D. The difficulties today’s parents have met with.
