“《英語(yǔ)世界》杯”翻譯大賽肇始于2010年，由商務(wù)印書(shū)館《英語(yǔ)世界》雜志社主辦。短短數(shù)載，大賽參賽人數(shù)屢創(chuàng)新高，目前已經(jīng)成為國(guó)內(nèi)最有影響的翻譯賽事之一。為推動(dòng)翻譯學(xué)科進(jìn)一步發(fā)展，促進(jìn)中外文化交流，我們秉承“給力英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)，探尋翻譯之星”的理念，于2021年繼續(xù)舉辦第十二屆“《英語(yǔ)世界》杯”翻譯大賽，誠(chéng)邀廣大翻譯愛(ài)好者積極參與，比秀佳譯。

第十二屆“《英語(yǔ)世界》杯”翻譯大賽得到北京師范大學(xué)的大力支持，并由該校冠名本屆比賽。2021年的翻譯大賽包含“英譯漢”和“漢譯英”兩個(gè)組別。大賽初評(píng)交給合辦院校的老師，以確保大賽評(píng)審的權(quán)威性和公信力。復(fù)評(píng)和終評(píng)我們將延續(xù)歷屆傳統(tǒng)，從全國(guó)各地邀請(qǐng)知名翻譯專家進(jìn)行評(píng)審。

參賽要求

1.參賽者國(guó)籍、年齡、學(xué)歷不限。

2.參賽譯文須獨(dú)立完成，不接受合作譯稿。

3.僅第一次投稿有效，不接受修改后的再投稿件。

4.只接受電子版投稿，不接受紙質(zhì)投稿。

5.在大賽截稿日之前，請(qǐng)妥善保存參賽譯文，勿在報(bào)刊、網(wǎng)絡(luò)等任何媒體上以任何方式公布，違者取消參賽資格并承擔(dān)相應(yīng)后果。

6.參賽譯文一經(jīng)發(fā)現(xiàn)抄襲或雷同，或院校集體輔導(dǎo)參賽等，即取消涉事者參賽資格。

7.參賽者投稿即視為其本人同意和自愿遵守本啟事的各項(xiàng)規(guī)定。

獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)及證明

1.“英譯漢”和“漢譯英”每組擬分別設(shè)置一等獎(jiǎng)1名，二等獎(jiǎng)2名，三等獎(jiǎng)3名，優(yōu)秀獎(jiǎng)若干名。

2.一、二、三等獎(jiǎng)?lì)C發(fā)證書(shū)、獎(jiǎng)金和獎(jiǎng)品，優(yōu)秀獎(jiǎng)?lì)C發(fā)證書(shū)和獎(jiǎng)品。

3.所有獲獎(jiǎng)?wù)呔@贈(zèng)2022年1—12期《英語(yǔ)世界》雜志，并有機(jī)會(huì)受邀成為《英語(yǔ)世界》的譯者。

4.積極組織學(xué)生參加翻譯大賽的院校，頒發(fā)“優(yōu)秀組織獎(jiǎng)”證書(shū);獲獎(jiǎng)院校有機(jī)會(huì)成為“《英語(yǔ)世界》翻譯實(shí)踐基地”合作單位。

5.入圍復(fù)審名單的參賽者，應(yīng)本人要求可由本社開(kāi)具“入圍復(fù)審”的書(shū)面證明。

報(bào)名及繳費(fèi)

1.為應(yīng)對(duì)不斷攀升的評(píng)審成本、提高獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)額度、遏制少數(shù)人敷衍投稿的行為，本屆大賽酌情收取少量、不至給參賽者造成較大負(fù)擔(dān)的參賽費(fèi)，以保障大賽良性開(kāi)展。懇請(qǐng)參賽者諒解為盼。

2.單獨(dú)參加“英譯漢”或“漢譯英”其中一項(xiàng)比賽繳納參賽費(fèi)50元，兩項(xiàng)均參加繳納參賽費(fèi)100元。

3.報(bào)名繳費(fèi)流程：關(guān)注我刊微信公眾號(hào)（theworldofenglish），閱讀大賽啟事，點(diǎn)擊文末“大賽報(bào)名”登錄英語(yǔ)世界網(wǎng)站或直接掃碼（見(jiàn)右）進(jìn)入大賽報(bào)名界面【請(qǐng)盡量通過(guò)PC端操作】，根據(jù)提示填寫(xiě)報(bào)名信息并繳納相關(guān)報(bào)名費(fèi)。

4.報(bào)名后沒(méi)有成功繳費(fèi)的，所投稿件無(wú)法進(jìn)入評(píng)審程序。

5. 因人力所限，繳費(fèi)后無(wú)論是否提交參賽譯文，費(fèi)用概不退還，繳費(fèi)時(shí)務(wù)請(qǐng)注意。

投稿規(guī)范

1.個(gè)人信息表及參賽譯文于截稿日之前以附件形式發(fā)送至電子郵箱：yysjfyds@sina.com 。

2.郵件主題：參賽者姓名+×××（×××為報(bào)名手機(jī)號(hào)，下同）。

3.個(gè)人信息表：文件名“×××個(gè)人信息”，excel格式，附件發(fā)送。請(qǐng)掃碼（見(jiàn)右）下載填寫(xiě)。

4.參賽譯文：文件名“×××英譯漢”或“×××漢譯英”，word格式，附件發(fā)送;同時(shí)參加兩項(xiàng)比賽，請(qǐng)發(fā)送兩個(gè)word附件，請(qǐng)勿合并成一個(gè)文件。

5.參賽譯文格式：宋體（英譯漢）/Times New Roman（漢譯英），黑色，小四號(hào)，1.5倍行距，兩端對(duì)齊。譯文每段之前請(qǐng)務(wù)必添加編號(hào)【1】【2】【3】……（如原文所示）。

6.參賽譯文中請(qǐng)勿留下任何個(gè)人信息，否則匿名評(píng)審過(guò)程中將被提前淘汰。

評(píng)審保障制度

為保證大賽評(píng)審的公平、公正和透明，盡量保證評(píng)審結(jié)果的客觀和可靠，本屆大賽在評(píng)審過(guò)程中特別設(shè)立以下制度：

1.合辦單位回避制度：合辦院校本校參賽稿的初評(píng)概由《英語(yǔ)世界》編輯部負(fù)責(zé)評(píng)審，而不交由合辦院校本校教師評(píng)審。

2.申訴復(fù)活制度：初審后的擬定復(fù)審入圍名單通過(guò)《英語(yǔ)世界》微信公眾號(hào)發(fā)布后，未能進(jìn)入該名單的參賽者3日內(nèi)有權(quán)提出申訴。提出申訴需另交90元的二次評(píng)審費(fèi)用，申訴稿將邀請(qǐng)三位外部專家獨(dú)立負(fù)責(zé)二次評(píng)審;二次評(píng)審發(fā)現(xiàn)確屬初評(píng)失誤的，將退還二次評(píng)審費(fèi)用，否則費(fèi)用不予退還。大賽會(huì)根據(jù)申訴稿二次評(píng)審結(jié)果重新公布最終的復(fù)審入圍名單。

The Tragedy of Climate Change

【1】Tragedies on the stage take place over a limited period of time. The protagonist is presented with a dilemma. He makes a choice. Terrible consequences rapidly ensue. As soon as Macbeth kills King Duncan， he is damned—his drunken porter turns his castle into hell， and unnatural signs of turmoil， such as horses eating each other， follow that same night. So swift is the action in the Scottish play that Macbeth and his wife want to speed up time， doing the deed “quickly”， feeling the “future in the instant” or willing to “jump the life to come”. The play hurtles towards its conclusion as the prophecies of the three witches come to pass， with devastating neatness.

【2】But the tragedy of environmental disaster unfolds along a much more extended timescale. The bleaching of the coral reefs， the shrinking of the Arctic polar ice， the extreme droughts and floods taking place worldwide， are symptoms and portents of decisions already taken whose full consequences have not yet been felt.

【3】There is a time lag between carbon emissions and temperature rises： the one-degree increase in the global average temperature is a result of carbon emissions released 40 years ago， while the levels of carbon in the atmosphere right now—about 412 parts per million （ppm） and rising—are enough to cause two degrees of warming by the middle of the century.

【4】This trajectory is also complicated by the so-called climate-change feedback loop. Once the Earth is warmed by more than 2?C， the capacity of plants to absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis will be affected and they will start to puff the gas out instead of taking it in （the carbon feedback loop）， causing temperatures to rise further.

【5】The tragic narrative of climate change is much lengthier than tragic plots in the theatre， and stretches the connections between cause and consequence， transgression and punishment. It resembles Prometheus， nailed to his rock in Aeschyluss play， knowing that centuries in the future his defiance will ensure the toppling of his enemy， Zeus. He knows the secret cause of Zeuss overthrow from prophetic signs he can detect in the here and now， but is reluctant to divulge it. So the immovable fate of Zeus and Prometheus turns out to be based upon Prometheuss will， and upon the brinkmanship between the two.

【6】Climate change is not our problem， we tell ourselves. It is for future generations to worry about. But if we view climate change as a tragic narrative that can be read and interpreted in the same way as an Aeschylean or Shakespearean play， then we might think about time， fate and individual responsibility differently.

【7】Tragic plots revolve around the moment when the hero makes the wrong choice. Macbeth kills the king; Oedipus murders his father; Prometheus steals fire from the gods. Fate plays a part in determining these decisions but each man also has free will and voluntarily enters into his chosen course of action. In Aeschyluss Oresteia， Agamemnon willingly puts his head into the “yoke of necessity”， uniting free will and destiny. Prometheus revels in his free will and capacity for defiance. These tragic narratives forge the connections between the individual and the world， between the small choices we each make and the huge， inevitable consequences they unleash.

【8】According to the writer and former soldier Roy Scranton， we have to treat existence as a tragedy to which we are stoically resigned. “We can learn to see each day as the death of what came before， freeing ourselves to deal with whatever problems the present offers without attachment or fear，” he writes.

【9】Nevertheless， there exists an alternative way to think about climate crisis. Aeschylus does not shy away from confronting the weakening power of human agency in the face of the vast inhuman forces of time， place and destiny. But still he leaves room in his dramatic vision of the world for contingency， for resistance and responsibility. Progress is dependent upon each characters knowledge and acknowledgement of the vagaries of self-deception or engagement.

【10】We are not “free” to detach ourselves， but rather remain vitally attached， through tragic witness， to those “crawling glaciers”， to those signs of the past， present and future and to our own capacity for action.

聞香識(shí)書(shū)（節(jié)選）

【1】“書(shū)香”一詞，古已有之。原指古人為防蠹蟲(chóng)咬食書(shū)籍，便在書(shū)中放置一種蕓香草，這種草有一種清香之氣，夾有這種草的書(shū)籍打開(kāi)之后清香襲人，故而稱之為“書(shū)香”，后常常被人們引申為讀書(shū)風(fēng)氣。

【2】閱讀所品味出的書(shū)香，是源自心靈的味道。是世間的人情冷暖，是豐富的道德情操，是悠久的文化傳承，是壯麗的大好河山……每一本書(shū)，訴說(shuō)的是一個(gè)故事，一種情懷。而每一個(gè)故事包含著不同的酸甜苦辣，每一種情懷包含著不同的理想！所以，我尊重每一本書(shū)，努力地去讀懂它，品味它的那份真誠(chéng)。

【3】古有“萬(wàn)般皆下品，唯有讀書(shū)高”，今有“人生因書(shū)香而精彩，生命因書(shū)香而富有”。古有讀書(shū)者懸梁刺股，鑿壁借光，而今亦有“廁所被窩讀書(shū)者”，這是對(duì)知識(shí)的渴望，亦是對(duì)生命的尊敬。不能說(shuō)人生會(huì)因?yàn)闆](méi)有讀書(shū)而毫無(wú)意義，但可以確定人生會(huì)因?yàn)樽x書(shū)而絢麗多彩，人生的道路上，讀書(shū)是一件多么高雅、多么純潔的事情啊。

【4】上學(xué)時(shí)，最歡欣雀躍的日子，莫過(guò)于發(fā)新書(shū)的那天。嶄新的課本，新鮮的知識(shí)……尤其是新書(shū)那特有的油墨香，格外吸引人。

【5】淡淡的墨香像淘氣的精靈一樣，在鼻翼前挑逗，讓我們捧起了書(shū)，就再也放不下。那里，有江河大海的氣息，有塵土月光的痕跡，有悲歡離合的滋味……心沉下去，情浮上來(lái)，眼睛打開(kāi)了去，那或苦悶，或歡暢，或蹙眉，或拍案的萬(wàn)千氣象都奔涌而來(lái)。安靜地坐在書(shū)桌前，看風(fēng)起云涌，讀花開(kāi)花落，這是一種怎樣的物我兩忘境界啊！

【6】讀書(shū)是一種修行，一種享受，它帶給我們的是雋永的感受，恒久的動(dòng)力，以及心靈的和平與精神的慰藉。當(dāng)然，要做到這些，還需自我改變，也需要全社會(huì)共同營(yíng)造讀書(shū)的氛圍。我們需要更多的圖書(shū)館、更多的閱讀空間、更便捷的取閱方式，只有當(dāng)我們真正體會(huì)了閱讀的樂(lè)趣，而書(shū)籍又唾手可得時(shí)，我們才能做到：書(shū)香隨身，書(shū)香隨心。
