China International Online Literature Week Begins
The China International Online Literature Week commenced on September 26 in Wuzhen, east Chinas Zhejiang Province, as part of efforts to increase the popularity of online Chinese literature overseas.
Exhibitions, forums, roundtables, and various other activities centering around the theme of online Chinese literatures influence worldwide were held.
A report was released at the events opening ceremony providing introductory insights into the overseas transmission of online Chinese literature, including its development history and direction, coverage area, as well as challenges faced.
By 2020, more than 10,000 online literary works had entered overseas markets and attracted over 100 million readers abroad, according to the China Writers Association (CWA).
The copyrights of over 4,000 physical books of Chinas online literature have been exported to countries and regions around the world, including the United States, Canada, Russia, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.
“China will promote the exchange of ideas through online literature,” said He Hong, deputy director of the online literature center of CWA, adding that a large data center will be established.
Forum on Confucius Culture Opens in East China
A forum on Confucian culture opened on September 27 in the city of Qufu, east Chinas Shandong Province, the birthplace of the Chinese sage.
The Seventh Nishan Forum on World Civilizations drew 180 scholars from home and abroad, and 38 diplomatic envoys to discuss the ancient wisdom of Confucianism and explore the bright future of human beings.
The forum coincided with the 2021 China (Qufu) International Confucius Cultural Festival.
Themed “Dialogues among Civilizations and Global Cooperation,” the two-day event featured high-level dialogues and a series of activities designed to boost international cooperation and development.
The brilliant traditional Chinese culture represented by Confucianism is closely related to the common values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy, and freedom of all mankind, according to Hao Mingjin, vice chairman of the National Peoples Congress Standing Committee.
In the face of common challenges, no country or nation can survive on their own. Only when we work together for common development and harmony and replace estrangement with exchanges, clash with mutual learning, and superiority with coexistence, can we create a better life for mankind, Hao added.
Confucius (551-479 BC), an educator and thinker, has influenced countless generations of Chinese.
