The marathoners I have coached is one of the joys. She's not a professional earning a stipend from the Philippine Sports Commission. Her name is Kristy Abello and you probably have

never heard of her. She was not a child prodigy. She just started running a few years ago， and juggles trying to squeeze runs in around a demanding job working as a global IT manager for the consumer goods company in the world， Procter and Gamble.

我其中的一個(gè)樂趣就是訓(xùn)練馬拉松運(yùn)動(dòng)員。她不是從菲律賓體育委員會(huì)領(lǐng)取津貼的專業(yè)人士。她的名字叫克里斯蒂·阿貝羅，你可能從未聽說(shuō)過(guò)她。她不是神童。她幾年前才開始跑步，她在寶潔公司擔(dān)任全球信息技術(shù)經(jīng)理，這是一份要求很高的工作，她努力擠出時(shí)間跑步。

On her own money and time， Kristy just went off to Canada and ran the Ottawa marathon at a blistering pace. She qualified for the famous Boston Marathon. She clocked a time that places her in the top 15 Pinay marathoners！ All this from a part-time runner with only a handful of years of running！

How is this possible？ The

answer is simple. She listens. She takes coaching. I have never heard her sentence， “I know that”

這怎么可能呢？答案很簡(jiǎn)單。她傾聽，她接受輔導(dǎo)。我從來(lái)沒有聽她說(shuō)過(guò)“我知道”這句話。

Yes， the people who are always saying， “I know that，”whether in athletics or business， are killing their careers.

是的，那些總是說(shuō)“我知道”的人，無(wú)論是在體育還是商業(yè)領(lǐng)域，都是在扼殺他們的職業(yè)生涯。

The fact is， underlying this simple three-word sentence， “I know that，”lies two major issues that will impede success.

事實(shí)是，在這句簡(jiǎn)單的三個(gè)字的句子“我知道”背后隱藏著兩個(gè)阻礙成功的主要問(wèn)題。

Issue one is lack of coachability. In today's world， be it in sports or business or any part of life， the bar is continually being raised. One has to keep growing. People who are coachable listen. They are open-minded. They place an inherent value on experience and the wisdom of their elders and believe everyone can add value to a discussion. They realize that “Nobody is smarter than everybody.”So they take in counsel and coaching. And they keep improving. When you continually say， “I know that，”you shut yourself off from any new perspectives. You don't grow. So in sitting still， in reality you fall behind.

問(wèn)題一是缺乏受調(diào)教的可能性。當(dāng)今世界，無(wú)論是體育、商業(yè)還是生活，標(biāo)準(zhǔn)都在不斷提高。一個(gè)人必須不斷成長(zhǎng)，而可調(diào)教的人都會(huì)傾聽。他們思想開放。他們重視長(zhǎng)輩的經(jīng)驗(yàn)和智慧，相信每個(gè)人都能為討論增添價(jià)值。他們意識(shí)到“沒有人比每個(gè)人都聰明”。因此，他們接受忠告、指導(dǎo)。他們?cè)诓粩喔倪M(jìn)。當(dāng)你不停地說(shuō)“我知道”，你就把自己拒之于任何新的發(fā)展了。你不會(huì)成長(zhǎng)。所以沒有進(jìn)步實(shí)際上就是你落后了。

Issue two is the signal you send to someone when you mutter， “I know that.”The First signal is one that says， “Shut up. I am smarter than you and I know all you know. So just clam up.”This pisses people off and in a world where working with others is so critical， you shoot yourself in the foot.

第二個(gè)問(wèn)題是當(dāng)你喃喃自語(yǔ)“我知道”時(shí)，你向人發(fā)出的第一個(gè)信號(hào)就是“閉嘴，我比你聰明，我知道你所知道的一切，所以閉嘴。”這讓人們很惱火，在一個(gè)與他人合作非常重要的世界里，你就是搬起石頭砸自己的腳。

The second signal it sends is you have weak self-confidence. If a person can't politely listen and has to “brag”by saying， “I know that，”it means they are light in the area of self-esteem. They have to show off and brag about their brainpower. I mean， even if you do really know it already， what is the harm in just listening？ Being polite？ Holding off on saying anything， because perhaps the next thing you hear will be new information？ When your urge is to cut someone off and tell them， “I know that，”what you are really doing is turning the discussion back into some sort of showcase of your wisdom. And in doing so， it shows a lack of self-confidence.

它發(fā)出的第二個(gè)信號(hào)是你缺乏自信。如果一個(gè)人不能禮貌地傾聽，不得不通過(guò)說(shuō)“我知道”來(lái)“吹噓”，那就意味著他們把自尊看得很輕。從而，他們不得不炫耀和吹噓自己的智慧。我的意思是，即使你真的已經(jīng)知道了，只是聽聽又有什么壞處呢？有禮貌嗎？什么都不說(shuō)，因?yàn)橐苍S你聽到的下一個(gè)消息可能是新消息？當(dāng)你想終止某人的講話，你告訴他們“我知道”，你真正做的是把討論變成你炫耀智慧的展示。在這樣做的過(guò)程中，它顯示出缺乏自信。

Bottom line， my advice is to strike the sentence “I know that”out of your vocabulary. You may listen， learn， be open.

總之，我的建議是從你的詞匯表中刪去“我知道”這句話，你應(yīng)該傾聽、學(xué)習(xí)、愿意接受建議。
