“How are these patterns made?” “These ancient hats are so trendy!” “I cannot believe this dress is a sacrifice!”
On the second working day after the Spring Festival holiday, an exhibition with the theme of “The Costume Culture along the Silk Road” is underway at the Chengdu Museum. The popularity of the exhibition is evidenced by the endless stream of visitors.
Still, this is far from the peak of the exhibition’s popularity, said Yang Shuo, a museum docent. During the Spring Festival, visitors from all over the country flocked to the exhibition hall to catch a glimpse of the costume culture along the Silk Road.
As a state of ceremonies with gorgeous costumes, China is also called “Huaxia”, in which the “Hua” means beauty and “Xia” means elegance. In the long-standing history of China, its costume culture has been spread far and wide along the Silk Road. By gaining a deeper understanding of the connotation and spirit of Chinese costume, we can grasp the essence of Chinese civilization.
This exhibition epitomizes the thriving costume culture along the ancient Silk Road and the Chinese history that has fostered our confidence in our time-honored culture. It also revives ancient art, tells Chinese stories, and promotes the spirit of the Silk Road.
