The design of Quincy High School incorporates many aspects of planning that are integral to all types of schools. The design includes the capability for student population growth by sizing their core facilities to accommodate a larger student body and physical expansion by saving space on the site for an additional 8 classrooms. The building layout also offers the flexibility to open up to the public for events while securing the remainder of the classroom areas and administration spaces. This required a tremendous amount of forethought and planning for as many potential event scenarios as possible.Security is another major topic of concern for planning a facility like this.Student and staff safety was considered in all decisions such as locations of the parking lots and bus drive to keep student drivers and buses separate, offering a secure outdoor commons space that can maintain the secure campus while also allowing students the ability to go outside and explore in a safe learning environment.Another important feature to the planning of this school was the integration of CTE and Special Services throughout the building so all students can interact with those programs even if they don’t specifically use those programs or services. The District has even decided to include a health services suite in the administration area so that an outside medical provider can provide those medical services to students who might not be able to access them otherwise.
