微探險是一種新概念, 它提倡人們走出舒適區(qū), 從喧囂的都市生活走進自然,推薦人們?nèi)奈慈ミ^的地方,并通過強身健體和堅持旅行體驗人生。
Before my daughter was born, my wife and I started our trips on weekends. We made long and difficult journeys in New Zealand, mountain biking and surfing in Portugal, and camping in Maine. The world was our oyster. Then we had a kid and our adventures decreased.
I reached a breaking point last winter, when, instead of a planned climbing of Mt Monadnock, I stayed home with my daughter, who caught a cold. Since that day, I have been satisfying my desire for the outdoors with a significant number of microadventures.
What is a microadventure? Alastair Humphreys, the go-to author on the subject, calls it “an adventure that is short, simple, local, cheap—yet still fun, exciting, challenging, refreshing and rewarding”.
For a parent who has to look after kids, microadventures can be a way to get all the benefits of nature and exercise in small doses. The result will be a parent that is more replenished and less resentful—a win for the whole family.
As first-time parents, they often hear that they should rest when their children are resting and catch up on all that missed sleep. And while I believe a good nap can make them feel strong and healthy again, I might offer a different perspective. Plan possible adventures, choose the best time with your significant other, put on your superhero cape and do something impressive.
What's a microadventure according to Alastair Humphreys?
