Copenhagen, a City of Fairytales
Speaking of Denmark, many people may think of the statue of the Little Mermaid. Located at Langelinie, Copenhagen, with a history of more than 100 years, the statue was created by sculptor Edward Erickson based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale story—Daughter of the Sea. Behind the statue, there is glittering water, crashing waves and glistening ripples, arousing infinite reveries.
Copenhagen is not only the capital of the Kingdom of Denmark and a world-renowned international city, but also the place where Hans Andersen, the “Father of Modern Fairy Tales”, started his fairytale life. Andersen spent most of his life in Copenhagen, and created numerous works there. He and his fairy tales have endowed Denmark with a unique feature and soul, and covered Copenhagen with fairytales, attracting tourists from all over the world. Copenhagen is clean, neat and attractive, where emerging industrial enterprises and medieval buildings add radiance to each other. Thus, it has not only the verve and vitality of a modern city, but also an antique artistic atmosphere. Unlike those in other cities, most buildings in Copenhagen are low-rises, and even new buildings stand shoulder to shoulder with old ones. There are stunning ancient and modern building artworks standing next to each other.
Filled with rich cultural characteristics, Copenhagen has numerous cultural venues, e.g. the Arken Art Center, the Louisiana Museum, and the National Museum of Denmark. From classical literature and art to various modern works, you can find a wealth of exhibits here. Wandering around the city to feel the collision of ancient and modern elements, you will find the distinctive significance of travel.
