My phone chimed1 a cheerful tune2, and anunknown number flashed on the screen. I hesitated3before pressing the answer button.“Hello?”
“Who is this? Why did you call me?”a voicelaced4 with age asked.
“I didnt call you,”I answered.
“Yes, you did,” the woman insisted5. “Yournumber came up on my phone.”
“Maam, I didnt call you.”
“Someone used your phone to call me. Who liveswith you?”
I looked around the living room, wondering whatto say next, when my eyes locked on a fuzzy6 face withbright green eyes.
“You know,”I said brightly, “I do have a cat.Maybe she called you.”
“A cat?”A snort7 came through the receiver.
“Shes a very intelligent cat.”I did my best tosound offended8.“Should I ask her if she called you?”
The womans voice softened a bit.“No. Dont lether play with your phone anymore. I dont like phonecalls from people I dont know.”
“Yes, maam. I will talk to her about callingstrangers.”
The lady hung up.
Kit glared at me as I laughed and scooped9 herinto my arms. “You really need to stop using myphone. Dont you have better things to do thanannoy10 old ladies?”

“有人用過你的電話給我打電話。誰和你住在一起?”
我環(huán)顧了一下客廳,想知道接下來該說什么,這時我的目光鎖定在帶著一雙明亮的綠色眼睛的毛茸茸的臉上。
“你知道?!蔽宜实卣f,“我確實養(yǎng)了一只貓。也許它給你打過電話?!?/p>
“一只貓?”聽筒里傳來一聲輕哼。
“她是一只非常聰明的貓?!蔽冶M力讓自己的聲音聽起來很生氣?!拔乙獑枂査欠窠o你打過電話嗎?”
那位女士的聲音變得柔和了一些?!安挥昧?。別再讓它玩你的電話了。我不喜歡陌生人打來的電話。”
“是的,女士。我會和它談?wù)劥螂娫捊o陌生人的事。”
那位女士掛斷了電話。
姬特瞪著我,我笑著把它抱進我懷里?!澳阏娴男枰V故褂梦业碾娫?。難道你就沒有比惹惱老太太更好的事情可做了嗎?”
